Senior Jonathan Boffa and freshman Alexia Zevnik of the NC State swimming & diving team were each named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) swimmers of the week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
Boffa, a native of Verona, Italy, earned two individual victories in the 100 (44.03) and 200 (1:37.47) freestyle events against Florida State and Georgia Tech to capture ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honors. His time in each event meets the required time standard for an NCAA ‘B’ cut. In the 100 free, Boffa’s time of 44.03 ranks tied for second nationally and is the top mark in the ACC. In addition, Boffa teamed with Simonas Bilis, Scott Johnson and Andreas Schiellerup to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:20.45.
Zevnik was named the ACC Female Swimmer of the Week after posting two NCAA ‘B’ cuts and three first-place finishes in four events against Florida State and Georgia Tech. A native of Lasalle, Canada, Zevnik captured her second ‘B’ cut in back-to-back weeks in the 100 backstroke, with a time of 54.81 to win the event. In the 200 back, the freshman cruised to victory with a time of 1:58.77 to earn her second ‘B’ cut of the meet and third of the season. Zevnik also led the 200-medley relay team of Lauren Poli, Zina Grogg and Lotta Nevalainen to a first-place finish with a time of 1:41.75 and the 200 free relay team to a third-place finish (1:35.23).
NC State will open its home schedule with a meet against Duke and Miami (women only) on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m., inside the Willis R. Casey Natatorium.
