Action Concludes on First Day of Cavalier Invite, Perdue Breaks AFC Record

Virginia swimmers concluded action at day one of the Cavalier Invite Friday at the Aquatic Fitness Center in Charlottesville. The action continues Saturday with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.

In the women’s 200 free relay, the foursome of senior Lauren Perdue and juniors Dana NesslerEmily Lloyd and Rachel Naurath broke the AFC record and finished first in a time of 1:30.47. The men’s 200 free relay of sophomore Jake Pearce, sophomore Charlie Rommel, senior Tom Barrett and junior Parker Camp also won in a time of 1:20.08.

Freshman Greg Stoffa touched first in the men’s 500 free in 4:34.39, while classmate Natalie Martin claimed the women’s 100 breast in 1:03.45. Her prelim time of 1:03.40 Friday morning ranks ninth on the UVa all-time list. Freshman Eric Holden was second in the men’s 100 breast in 56.16.

In the women’s 200 back, junior Riley Flanagan finished first in 1:58.14, while senior Meg Hutchinson was second in 1:59.49. Sophomore Charlie Putnam won the men’s 200 back in 1:47.63.

Virginia went 1-2-3 in the women’s 100 free, with freshman Samantha James winning a time of 50.51, junior Jane Munro second in 50.87 and Nessler third in 51.13. Pearce claimed the men’s 100 free in 44.84, while junior Fred Crawford was second in 45.74.

The women’s 400 medley relay of Munro, Naurath, Hutchinson and sophomore Hope Kerpelman placed first in a time of 3:53.46. The foursome of Putnam, Holden, Pearce and Crawford took the men’s 400 medley relay in 3:22.78.
