In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman Hodges, Garrett McCaffrey, and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.
Adam Peaty‘s Speedo partnership announcement blew up traffic yesterday on SwimSwam. See the announcement here. This podcast with the 3-time Olympic gold medalist and world record holder was supposed to be a quick chat about signing with Team Speedo, and he unpacks the partnership, but Peaty chatted a little longer across a few topics.
Project Immortal is clearly personal motivation, all about staying in the sport with a big goal of setting a record that will stand the test of time. Peaty provides insight into how coach Mel Marshall has kept him engaged, happy, and honest on the path to making his mark in history. He has opinions about 25m verses 50m competition and the grit it takes to get it done in the long pool. Is there a Team Speedo exhibition relay in the future with Caeleb Dressel? Peaty likes the idea, and certainly thinks they could break the 4×100 medley relay world record. How fast would they go in a 50m (or 25m) pool? Peaty covers these topics and more.
While Peaty’s excited to race in Speedo, he’s also a change-maker. He cares about making the sport accessible to all kids no matter their economic challenges. Globally that’s huge hurdle in our sport, and Peaty’s tackling that initiative with Speedo. Peaty also cares about sustainability, and he shares his ideas in this conversation. See a teaser on his Instagram, a preview of what we can expect from this Speedo partnership in the future:
PROJECT IMMORTAL
The next issue of SwimSwam Magazine dives deeper into Peaty’s Project Immortal. The feature is a swim nerd mathematical review authored by Daniel Takat, aka Mr. @SwimmingStats. Daniel’s posts on SwimmingStats Powered by SwimSwam are merely a taste of the data he’s crunching. See an example below and look for the issue to drop mid-April globally:

The world record question is kind of a “well duh”. USA broke the record in Tokyo despite Peaty swimming two full seconds faster than MA. Of course Peaty and Dressel on a relay together could take the record.
…I asked the question because I want Peaty to request it from Speedo. I just want to see it….for fun!
Haha ok I respect that. It would definitely be fun to watch
Thanks Mel for this podcast. I love how Peaty talks about his WRs and how he wants to cement his name in the books.
I would love to see Dressel do the same thing and go after the freestyle records, specially since he’s turning 26 this summer and it’ll be harder to improve from there.
Mel, i know that you’re gonna record a podcast with Remel before trials as always, so it will be great if you ask him the same question you gave Peaty about the free WRs. ( I know he’s gonna avoid the answer, but try to insist on him lol ).
I don’t think Dressel hasn’t been trying to break the free records. The free records are just a lot harder to break, and Dressel also has much more competition in the free (well the 100 free anyway).
Peaty legitimately has a shot at making a world record that could take decades to beat. Dressel isn’t that far ahead of the pack in any of his three events.
Sheesh, he’s more than 1.5 years younger than Peaty.
Quick question: what are the lyrics to the song in the intro?
Name of the song: Complicate ya

I hope Speedo comes out with a Adam Peaty suit. His Arena suit with the lion was cool, and it was fun to see the younger kids at meets wearing the non-tech lion suit at meets.
Love to see a SCY Medley Relay probably go like 2:56 or 2:55
Mr Andrew might have something to say about that
I would love to see a Speedo v. TYR v. Arena meet. It would be like ISL but with suit sponsors.
Im surprised they haven’t done this.
I just think it’s too much of a risk. If one company does really poorly, it’ll look really terrible for them. They’re much better off just highlighting their winners at major events instead of creating a scenario where their losers will be made very apparent.
This guy markets
It would be great to see but I do think speedo win with ease especially sunset arena lose peaty now. Speedo has Titmus, McKeon, McKeown, dressel, scott and now peaty as well as a lot of other big names there is no way they’d lose
But what about the Mizuno athletes?
A bunch of great Japanese swimmers and the foster brothers.
shymanovich sometimes
@Gold Medal Mel Stewart Why didn’t he/Arena renew their contract? Is it just because Speedo offered him more money?
Speedo pays for a good bit of ad space here. Don’t think you’ll get a response there either way. As an aside, it’d be cool to open comments on some sponsored content like the Peaty Announcement.
Arena allowed it on the chalmers announcement. Just some food for thought.
I answered above….

Ha!!!!
….Fair question. I “cannot” speak for Peaty, but money is one of a “few factors” when making a swimwear partnership. Still, to address the elephant in the room…yeah. Swimwear partnerships for swimmers are shoe-partnerships for ball-players. They matter greatly. And when a swim-star makes money, they are based on their q-rating, their fan-base, and these days that is pretty well understood. Big brands make offers in that range, but it’s the “total package” that athletes want… Again I “cannot” speak for Peaty a/his personal biz–but I “think” the Speedo rate is on-point, their professionalism on the marketing side is proven (marketing power matters), AND Peaty’s made it clear he wants to do more than just be known for winning Olympic… Read more »
