Sunbury YMCA swimmer Adriana Grabski has verbally committed to Virginia Tech, marking the first public verbal commitment for the ACC this recruiting season.
Grabski swims for the Sunbury Branch YMCA in Pennsylvania, and is an extremely talented (though somehow rarely discussed) freestyler.
She has been a 23.0 in the 50 yard free, a 49.5 in the 10 yard free, and a 1:46.9 in the 200 yard free in yards, and most importantly went all of those times at her taper meet as a junior. She’s shown steady improvement throughout her high school career, which is attractive to any coach.
Especially attractive for Virginia Tech is her freestyle versatility, as Virginia Tech will lose their top sprinter, Katarina Filova, after this season. That would probably make Grabski the favorite to anchor both medley relays, if she continues her improvement, and make her the primary 200 freestyler on this roster.
Among her many swimming accomplishments, Grabski was the 2013 YMCA Short Course National Champion in the 100 yard free.
Sunbury is a regional hub of sorts, right in the middle of the state. It’s located directly between Williamsport, famous as hosts of the Little League World Series, and Harrisburg, the state capital.
Sunbury is also very close to Bucknell University and Susquehanna University. The Sunbury coach is Jerry Foley, who was Bucknell coach for a lot of successful years and has now been doing a really good job at D3 Susquehanna. Jerry is a coach that has kids improve year after year, and from what I hear Adriana is just beginning to realize her potential. Could be big things ahead for her.
