Agnel and Muffat among French, Brazilian, Korean, Chinese Swimmers Join Mix for British Trials

As the entry deadline for the upcoming British Trials looms, another handful of big-name international swimmers have thrown their names into the hat for the first crack at the brand-new Olympic pool.

The biggest addition is Yannick Agnel of France. He will be travelling with fellow French Olympic probables Clement Lefert, Sebastian Rouault, Charlotte Bonnet, and Camille Muffat. As has been the norm for international swimmers just trying to get a quick feel for the pool and atmosphere, they will each be entered in only one event: the men are all swimming the 200 free, and the women the 400.

The Chinese will also send 14 swimmers to the meet, and the biggest name is 200 fly medal hopeful Wu Peng, who trains in the United States with Club Wolverine. Most of the other swimmers are smaller-names, but with China it’s hard to ever tell when the next Chinese superstar will be revealed.

The Koreans are sending a huge 30 athletes to fill up some lanes. No Tae-Hwan Park, however, as the headliner will be Hye Ra Choi. She’s the country’s best female swimmer, and will enter both of the butterfly events and the 200 IM.

The Brazilians will send a largely developmental squad to this meet, including women’s sprinter Jessica Cavalheiro and men’s backstroker Henrique Machado.
