AgonSwim Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 1/13/2016

Here are our Weekly Wonders for January 8-10, 2016.

David Curtiss, 13, Tri-Hampton YMCA Swim Team: 50y free (21.61) – Curtiss won the boys’ 13-14 50 free at the 2016 Winterfest hosted by SPY Swimming. Not only did he lower his personal best by nearly a full second, but he also won the event by 7/10 and set a new meet record. Curtiss also won the 100 free, 100 back, and 100 fly.

Jacob Replogle, 11, North Penn Aquatic Club: 1000y free (11:18.97) – Swimming at the Blue Eagle Swim Team Winter NT Buster, Replogle dropped 43 seconds off his seed time and finished second in the boys 11-12 1000 free. He was also fourth in the 100 free, third in the 100 back, fifth in the 100 fly, and sixth in the 100 IM.

Bird Jones, 12, dROP Aquatics: 1650y free (17:15.60) – At the Mid States All Star Championships, Jones chopped 39 seconds off his previous personal best and won the boys’ 11-12 1650 free by 18/100. He took home new best times in the 100/200/500/1650 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

Madeline Meredith, 11, Etown Dolphins: 100y back (1:00.33) – Also swimming at the Mid States All Stars, Meredith won the girls’ 11-12 100 back by a sliver, going her second-best time ever. She was second in the 50 back and led off the winning medley relay representing Kentucky.

Berit Quass, 13, Central Iowa Aquatics: 100y fly (56.54) – Quass dropped 1.3 seconds off her 100 fly time and finished second in the girls’ 13-14 category at the Winter Classic hosted by Eden Prairie FoxJets. All in all Quass registered four new PBs at the meet: 100/200 fly and 200/400 IM.

Landon Him, 11, Bluefish Swim Club: 200y fly (2:15.76) – Him took 6.4 seconds off his 200 fly seed time in prelims, and another 2.6 off in finals at the Bluefish Trials/Finals Meet at Boston University. He finished second in the event, losing by a narrow 4/10. Him also earned best times in the 100/200 back and 100/400 IM.

Brian Tran, 12, Great Wolf Swim Club: 200y IM (2:06.05) – Tran won the boys’ 11-12 50/100/200/500 free, 50/100 breast, and 100/200 IM at the FOXJ Winter Classic. He was also runner-up in the 50 back and 50 fly. Tran wound up the weekend with new times in everything but the 100 breast and 100 IM.

Andrew Renninger, 11, Olympic Aquatic Club: 200y IM (2:13.33) – One of only three 11-year-olds invited to the Pacific Coast All Star Meet in Portland, Oregon, Renninger represented Pacific Northwest Swimming with some strong results. He scored at fourth in the 200 free and sixth in the 500 free, and earned new PBs in the 100/200/500 free and 200 IM. His IM was a best time by over 3 seconds.
