AgonSwim Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 2/11/2014

There were only a handful of meets around the country this weekend but, given that a good number of them were high school championship meet, they were fast. Below are the AgonSwim Weekly Wonders for the weekend of February 6-8, 2015.

Danielle Dellatorre, 15, Unattached (Athens Bulldog Swim Club): 50y free (23.40) – Dellatorre picked up her first Juniors cut in the 50 free leading off Oconee County’s 200 free relay at the GHSA 1-5A State Swimming Championships. She also won state titles in the 200 IM (2:01.07) and 100 breast (1:02.94).

Adam Chaney, 12, Mason Manta Rays: 100y free (51.42) – Chaney went best times in the 100 free, 50 breast and 50 fly at the JAGS February Invite at IUPUI.  Chaney’s 100 free time moved him to 18th in the country for 12-year-old boys for the season.

Matthew Hirschberger, 16, Unattached (Nation’s Capital Swim Club): 200y free (1:37.12) – Swimming for Georgetown Prep at the 2015 Washington Metro Championships, sophomore Hirschberger set the Metros record in the 200 free while winning a very narrow victory over seniors Brennan Novak and Adrian Lin. He also won the 500 in 4:19.95.

Reilly Lanigan, 16, Patriot Aquatic Club: 1000y free (10:03.30) – Lanigan swam her first-ever 1000 at the Patriot Winter Time Trial and promptly snagged a Winter Juniors cut. She can now add that to her list of national-qualifying events: 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM.

Abby Reardon, 12, Virginia YMCA Aquatic Club: 1650y free (18:32.14) – Swimming at the ODAC Age Group 9-14 Year Old Meet, Reardon won the girls 11-12 500/1000/1650 free, 50/100/200 back, 50 fly, and 100/400 IM. She achieved PBs in the 100/1000/1650 free, 200 breast, 50 fly, and both IMs.

Lucie Nordmann, 14, Unattached (The Woodlands Swim Team): 100y back (53.44) – Representing Conroe the Woodlands High School at the UIL Region 4-6A Championships, Nordmann won the 100 back with a best time by 2 full seconds. She also posted a best 100 free (50.80) in her second-place finish, and led off Conroe’s medley relay with her fastest-ever 50 back (25.33).

Milan Hilde-Jones, 14, Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics: 200y back (2:02.17) – Hilde-Jones went a best time but just a tad, but was fully 7 seconds faster than she was a year ago, with her second-place finish in the girls open 200 back. She also picked up new times in the 50 and 500 freestyles.

Jacquee Clabeaux, 15, Unattached (York Swim Club): 100y breast (1:01.69) – Swimming for Chantilly High School at the VHSL 6A North Region Championships, Clabeaux set a Region 6A North record in the 100 breast with a best-ever time of 1:01.69. It was a PB by .80 and about 5.5 seconds faster than at the same time last year.

Caitlin Tycz, 15, Unattached (Long Reach Swim Club): 100y fly (54.72) – Tycz broke two conference records (50 free-23.95 and 100 fly-54.72), helping Brunswick High School win the team championship at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Championships at the Bath Area Family YMCA. Tycz was named Swimmer of the Meet for her exploits.

Erik Jensen, 14, Jersey Wahoos: 200y fly (1:54.27) – Jensen posted the second-fastest time in the meet when he won the consolation of the boys open 200 fly at the Jersey Wahoos Sweetheart Meet. It was his best time by 2.3 seconds. Jensen also finished second in the 500 free, third in the 200 free, third in the 1650, tenth in the 100 fly, and sixth in the 400 IM.

Derek Cox, 17, Unattached (Dynamo Swim Club): 200y IM (1:48.77) – At the Georgia State 1-5A State Championships, Cox helped Westminster win the boys’ title with his 200 IM victory and third-place finish in the 100 fly. Cox dropped 2.2 seconds en route to his 200 IM win and dipped under 1:50 for the first time.

Connor Hunt, 11, Ridgefield Aquatic Club: 400y IM (4:51.25) – Hunt took third in the boys open 400 IM and second in the 500 free at the HHAC Distance Meet. It was his fastest IM by 8.2 seconds, and his best 500 free by 8.5.
