AgonSwim Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 6/17/2015

This is my favorite kind of week. Twelve Weekly Wonders out of twelve different meets in twelve different LSCs. And here they are, the AgonSwim Weekly Wonders for the weekend of June 12-14, 2015:

Logan Skiles, 13, WSY Swimming: 50m free (25.54) – At the Long Course Classic Trials/Finals Meet hosted by West Shore YMCA and Hershey Aquatic Club at Bucknell, Skiles went a best time by 7/10 and finished tenth in the boys 13-and-over 50 free. He also lowered his PBs in the 100 free and 100 back.

Janelle Rudolph, 12, PRO Swimming: 100m free (1:00.80) – Rudolph won the girls 11-12 100 free, 200 back, and 200 fly at the Port Orchard Classic. She achieved best time in all three events, as well as the 50 free which she exhibitioned.

Riley Gaines, 15, Excel Aquatics: 200m free (2:04.54) – Between prelims and finals, Gaines swam two personal bests at the 87th Ohio Valley Championships, where she placed fourth overall in the women’s 200 free and fifth in the 100 free. Gaines left Louisville with new times in the 200 free, 400 free, and 100 back.

Jack Hamilton, 11, Birmingham-Bloomfield Atlantis: 400m free (4:44.73) – Swimming at the Summer Classic hosted by Oakland Live Y’ers, Hamilton won the boys 11-12 100/200 free, 50/100 back, 100 breast, and 50 fly, and was runner-up in the 50 free and 50 breast. He also placed 22nd in the open 400 free, dropping over 35 seconds off his seed time, which came from the same meet last year.

Kaitlin Harty, 17, Greenwood Memorial Swim Club: 100m back (1:03.05) – Harty won the girls 11-and-over 100 back and 200 back at the Seekonk Aquatics Summer Festival at Brown University. She picked up 2016 Olympic Trials cuts in both events and was the fastest she had been since her big breakout summer of 2013.

Cassie Kalisz, 15, North Baltimore Aquatic Club: 200m back (2:16.84) – Just about every time Kalisz gets in the water she knocks another couple of tenths off her 200 back time. At the NBAC Long Course Championships, Kalisz did it again, this time winning the women’s open event with a new PB of 2:16.84. She also improved her PBs in the 100 fly and 200 IM.

Khai Tran, 11, Multnomah Athletic Club: 100m breast (1:20.95) – At the Howard Jones Memorial Age Group Meet, Tran dropped 3 in the 100 free, 2 in the 200 free, 2.5 in the 50 back, and 5.5 in the 100 breast. He picked up second-place finishes in the 100/200 free and 100 breast among all 11-12 boys.

Devon Schimbeno, 13, American Energy Swim Club: 200m breast (2:38.50) – Schimbeno dropped 2 seconds in prelims, and another 4 in finals, to win the boys 13-14 200 breast at the 2015 Recordsetter hosted by Fort Smith Tideriders. He also closed out the weekend with new times in the 100 breast and 200 IM.

Trever Brenner, 14, Sioux Falls Snowfox: 100m fly (1:01.33) – Swimming at the Brookings High Point Swim Meet, Brenner dropped 4 seconds in his 100 fly and broke a 37-year-old South Dakota Swimming state record. In addition, Brenner established new PBs during the weekend in the 50/100/200 free, 100 back, 100/200 breast, and 200 IM.

Olivia Carter, 14, Triangle Aquatics Club Titans: 200m fly (2:16.37) – Carter dropped 3.2 seconds to win the girls 13-14 200 fly at the Triangle Classic Meet hosted by the TAC TITANS in Cary, North Carolina. Carter finished the weekend with new times in the 100/200 back, 100/200 fly, and 200 IM.

Kai Crews, 12, Hawaii Swimming Club: 200m IM (2:21.93) – Swimming at the A3 Meet hosted by MAGSA & Maui Dolphins Swim Club, Crews won the boys 11-12 100 free, 400 free, 100 back, and 200 IM, setting meet records in all of them, and Hawaii Swimming LSC records in three of the four. The LSC records all dated back to 1988 and 1989.

Jordan Dorado, 11, First Colony Swim Team: 400m IM (5:20.51) – Dorado dropped a combined billion seconds (I’m only slightly exaggerating) at the FCST Summer Splash Invitational. He won the boys 11-12 400/800 free and 100 back, was runner-up in the 200 free, 200 breast, and 200/400 IM, and placed third in the 200 back.
