AgonSwim Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 9/30/2015

As fall high school season gathers steam, we are starting to see fast swims from some more familiar names. Take a look at the Weekly Wonders for the weekend of September 25-27, 2015.

Pierce Dietze, 14, Wind N’ Sea Swim Team: 50y free (21.98) – Dietze went a best time by nearly a full second to win the boys’ 13-14 50 free at the Heartland Swim Association Freestyle Festival. He also won the 100 free, 200 free, and 500 free, and went best times in each of them.

Arion Solomon, 14, Southern Crescent Aquatic Team: 100y free (47.41) – Solomon came within .12 of his personal best but he was fully 2 seconds faster than at this time last year when he won the boys’ 13-14 100 free at the Fall Invite at the Georgia Tech Campus Recreation Center. Solomon won the 200 IM and swept the freestyle events from the 50 to the 200; he was runner-up in the 100 back, 100 breast and 100 fly.

Peyton Palsha, 16, Unattached (Saint Petersburg Aquatics): 500y free (4:53.31) – Swimming for Saint Petersburg High School, Palsha won the 200 free and 500 free at the Pinellas County Aquatic Conference Championship. She was less than 2 seconds off her best time in the 500 and 2.1 seconds faster than at the 2014 District meet last November.

Jake Marcum, 14, McCallie / GPS Aquatics: 100y back (52.96) – Marcum won the boys’ 13-14 100/200/500 free, 100/200 back, and 200/400 IM at the Duel in the Pool hosted by Nashville Aquatic Club. He went best times in the 100/200 free and 200/400 IM, and his backstroke was 2.6 seconds faster than it had been last year at this time.

Zach Lorson, 15, Unattached (Columbia Swim Club): 100y breast (58.30) – Lorson scored a personal best in the 100 breast swimming for Rock Bridge High School at the Boys Como Invitational at Mizzou Aquatic Center. He finished second in both the 100 breast and 200 free (1:44.58). His free was a best time by nearly 2 seconds.

Hunter Kim, 12, Westchester Aquatic Club: 200y breast (2:20.50) – Kim shaved 2.7 seconds off his best 200 breaststroke at the Westchester Aquatic Club Time Trials; he now leads the nation in the event for 11-12 year-old boys. Kim also swam to a personal best in the 400 IM and moved into the third slot nationally for his age group.

Claire Maiocco, 16, Unattached (Trinity Prep Aquatics): 100y fly (53.87) – Swimming for Trinity Prep at the Tampa Bay Classic, Maiocco took .10 off her best time and posted the number one 100 fly time in the nation for girls 11-18. She broke her previous meet record by a full second in the process. Maiocco also lowered her own meet record winning the 50 free in 23.52, and helped Trinity Prep break the meet records in the 200 medley and 200 free relays as well.

Brendan Hausdorf, 12, Marietta Marlins: 400y IM (4:24.70) – At the Fall Kickoff Classic hosted by Baylor Swim Club, Hausdorf dropped 10 seconds to finish third in the boys open 400 IM. He won the boys’ 11-12 200 IM by 26 seconds. Hausdorf also won the boys 11-12 100 free, 50 back, and 100 fly.
