The Air Force men and women improved to 5-0, 6-1 records respectively for the 2015-16 season after beating 3 teams in a quad meet on Saturday. The men topped North Dakota 169-118, Colorado Mesa 174-110, and Colorado Mines 178-101. The women defeated North Dakota (174.00-125.00), CSU-Pueblo (234.00-59.00), Colorado Mines (227.00-63.00) and Colorado Mesa (235.00-60.00). Air Force distance standout Genevieve Miller posted winning times in the 1000 (10:33.18) and 500 (5:15.69) to sweep the distance events.
Air Force:
The Air Force men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams posted a combined 7-0 record in a multi-team meet, Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Academy’s Cadet Natatorium. The men were 3-0 with victories over conference rival North Dakota (169.00-118.00), Colorado Mines (178.00-101.00) and Colorado Mesa (174.00-110.00). The women’s team was 4-0 with wins over North Dakota (174.00-125.00), CSU-Pueblo (234.00-59.00), Colorado Mines (227.00-63.00) and Colorado Mesa (235.00-60.00).
The Air Force women opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay as the team of Emma Strom, Gaby Miller, Maria Schroeder and Brianna Mount posted a time of 1:47.69. In the 1000 free, Genevieve Miller won (10:33.18) while Sara Menke was second (10:52.74). Jinan Andrews won the 200 free (1:55.34) while Menke was second (1:56.36). Elise Hart won the 100 backstroke (58.70) while Emma Strom was second 59.32).Jenna Tasic won the 200 butterfly (2:07.44) while Maria Schroeder was second (2:10.60). Brianna Mount won the 50 free (24.38). Andrews also won the 100 free (53.11) while Miller was second (55.58). Miller then won the 500 free (5:15.69) while Menke was second (5:19.19). Maria Schroeder won the 100 fly with a time of 57.43. Andrews won the 200 IM (2:11.71). In the women’s final event, the Falcon team of Mount, Schroeder, Andrews and Gaby Miller won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:34.67.
In women’s diving, Jessica Horn won the three-meter with 242.35 points and was second on the one-meter with 228.95.
The Falcon men opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay as the team of Joey Gebhart, Zach Knoche,Kevin Mitchell and George Frank won with a time of 1:31.54. The Falcons went 1-2-3 in the 200 free as Jordan Dahle won (1:42.39) while Andrew Antonetti was second (1:44.73) and Lars Knutson (1:44.79). Devon Daviswon the 100 backstroke (49.79). The Falcons also went 1-2-3 in the 100 breast stroke as Kevin Fanter won (57.05) while Zach Knoche was second (57.16) and Kevin Mitchell was third (59.25). Sean Ledford won the 200 fly (1:52.87). The Falcons took the top three places in the 50 free as Symen Ooms won (20.90) while Michael Hannigan was second (21.13) and Steffan Mount was third (21.16). Knutson won the 100 free (45.64) and Fanter won the 200 breaststroke (2:07.53). Fanter also won the 200 IM (1:56.26). Andrew Faciszewski won the 500 free (4:43.54). In the men’s final event, the team of Hannigan, Gebhart, Antonetti and Knutson won with a time of 3:04.37.
In men’s diving, Nathanael Zillweger won the one-meter (280.10 points) and three-meter (301.15).
“We swam very well and it was great to pick up conference win over North Dakota,” said men’s head coach Rob Clayton. “Kevin Fanter was really good in his season debut. He won three events and was outstanding today. Freshman Symen Ooms was great as he picked up his first collegiate win in 50 free. Knutson won the 100 free and then anchored the 400 free relay at the end of the meet. We are getting ready for four weeks of travel ahead of us, starting in Hawaii with an old conference rival. We are ready to do some great things on the road at sea level.”
Both the men’s and women’s team will compete against the University of Hawaii on Friday, Oct. 30, in Honolulu.

North Dakota:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of North Dakota swimming and diving teams fell to the Air Force Academy for each teams’ first dual losses on the season. The UND women were defeated, 174-125, to fall to 3-1 on the season; while to UND men fell to the Falcons, 169-118, falling to 2-1 on the season.
” I am happy with our performances today, we trained a full week at altitude and our swims reflect the effort and our attitude of our team,” UND head coach Chris Maiello said. “Good things are happening with this team and it is exciting. This is the best performance at Air Force we have ever had.
“Highlights include Jacob’s 1000 free victory and Kristin Ainsworth ‘s victory in the 100 back. Alexa Weyer‘s win in the breaststroke was also a great swim. We are really happy for her. Megan Seehusen also provided a spark for our team in getting her first win of her career on the 1m diving board. It’s always fun to see freshman divers get a win.
We are looking forward to getting back to a familiar environment to train and get ready for Minnesota.”
The reigning WAC Male Swimmer of the Week Jacob Wielinski continued the hot start to his college career by winning the 1000 freestyle with a 9:38.41, defeating the second-place finisher from AFA by over 15 seconds. Colin MacQuarrie finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.95, out-touching teammate Cal Mouritsen (48.90) who finished third. The 200-medley relay team of Nick Lawson, Ian Ballantyne, MacQuarrie, and Mouritsen finished third (1:37.07).
Alexa Weyer won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.48) and finished seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:39.08). Kristin Ainsworth also claimed the 200-backstroke title with a 2:08.92; while also finishing third in the 100 backstroke (59.53) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:19.10).
In diving, Megan Seehusen picked up her first collegiate win on the 1-meter board, scoring a 232.45 andAriana Brace finishing third with a 228.60 score. UND also finished 2-3-4 on the 3-meter board with Seehusen (226.45), Brace (219.15), and Alexis Eissinger (218.50) rounding out the top four.
“I thought it was a good meeting following a hard training platform,” said Brian Strom, head diving coach for UND. “It was great to see Megan get her first win.”
On the men’s diving side, Sam Howard (254.40) and Clayton Metcalf (226.45) finished second and third on the 1-meter board and also finished second and third on the 3-meter board as Howard (268.40) and Metcalf (264.95) finished off a solid performance.
UND returns home for a dual with Minnesota on Nov. 7 at 11 a.m.

Colorado Mesa:
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – Justin Hastings won a pair of events to lead the Colorado Mea University swimming and teams at the Air Force Dual Meet Invite Saturday (Oct. 24).
Hastings won the 200 back in 1:52.76 and the 100 fly in 50.61. He was second in the 100 backstroke in 50.57 and was a member of the 200 medley relay that placed fourth in a time of 1:34.23.
Sam Bryant collected three top-three finishes on the day. He was second in the 200 individual medley (1:59.10), third in the 500 free (4:47.53) and third in the 1,000 free (10:00.08).
Kyle Johnston placed second in the 200 fly (1:58.86), fourth in the 100 free (49.11) and fifth in the 500 free (5:03.97).
The men had success had in the 200 breast with Josh Bedford placing second (2:13.17), Ethan McNallythird (2:13.85) and Ryan Gifford fourth (2:16.37).
Marissa Bradley finished fourth in the women’s 200 free (2:00.01), and Josh Bedford was fourth (1:45.89) and Jake Germaud was fifth (1:48.72) in the men’s.
Morgan Bean was third in the 200 fly (2:04.02), and Sami Lenzmeier tied for fourth in the 200 back (2:14.38).
Ethan McNally finished fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:00.66) and fifth in the 100 breast (1:01.09).
Jason Hicks was fifth in the 100 free in 49.76.
Josh Lyons finished fourth on the 3-meter board with a score of 193.75, and Ross Barringer was fifth with a score of 183.90.
The men’s 400 free relay finished second (3:16.33) and the women’s team finished fifth (3:47.18).
Clarion Diving Invite
A small number of CMU divers competed at the Clarion Diving Invite over the weekend (Oct. 24).
Sage D’Ambrosia posted scores of 228.98 on the three-meter and 435.38 on the one-meter.
Ryan Popp finished with scores of 248.85 on the three-meter and 434.78 on the one-meter.
Zac Craig finished with scores of 213.30 on the three-meter and 370.50 on the one-meter.
Abby Smith posted scores of 222.53 on the three-meter and 222.90 on the one-meter.
Noelle Melani tallied a score of 239.03 on the one-meter board.
The CMU men will compete at BYU Nov. 7.

Colorado Mines:
Colorado School of Mines swam Saturday at the Air Force Dual Meet Invitational, taking on a mix of NCAA Division I and II competition.
The Mines women were 1-2 with a dual victory over CSU-Pueblo, while the men were 0-2 facing Air Force and Colorado Mesa.
GALLUP WINS 200-BREASTSTROKE
Katrin Gallup led the way for the Orediggers, winning the 200-breaststroke in 2:31.73 and coming in second in the 200-IM at 2:17.79. She also swam the 200-free, placing 12th in 2:03.17.
RELAYS STAND OUT
The Mines relays had a good day with three top-four finishes. The women had the top D-II 200-medley relay in fourth place (1:50.40) and 400-free relay in third (3:42.00), while the men’s 400-free was fourth in 3:21.53.
STANDOUT INDIVIDUAL FINISHES
– Brennan Mays was fourth in both the 1,000-free (10:01.28) and the 500-free (5:02.63)
– Justin Dearden snagged fourth place in the 200-back (2:01.30).
– Sam Knott touched the wall fifth in the 200-breast at 2:21.66.
– Brent Kehoe finished the 100-fly in 54.25, good for fifth.
– Sarah Berude tied for fourth in the 200-back at 2:14.38, and was also fifth in the 100-back in 1:00.57.
– Gillian Wagner took fifth in the 200-fly in 2:14.80, and was sixth in the 200-breasts at 2:38.26.
– Abigail Wong‘s 2:19.51 in the 200-IM earned her fifth place.
