In their sprint dual meet against Denver, the Air Force men were able to come to a dominant 217-161 win. That concludes the Falcon men’s season with a 15-1 record for the regular dual meet season. Read on for a full recap from each team.
Air Force:
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — The Air Force men’s swimming and diving team defeated the University of Denver, 217-161, in a sprint-scoring dual meet at the Academy’s Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons improved to 15-1 overall this season.
Air Force opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay as the team of Devon Davis, Michael Barnosky, Steffen Mount and Jordan Dahle posted a time of 1:27.18.
In the first point-scoring run of the 50 fly, Mount won with a time of 22.28. In the first point-scoring run of the 50 back, Davis won with a time of 22.06. Michael Barnosky won the first run of the 50 breast stroke (24.18) and Dahle won the first run of the 50 free (20.34).
In the final of the 50 fly, Kevin Mitchell was third (22.16) and Mount was fourth (22.18). In the final of the 50 back, Davis won (22.03) while Kris Tillery and Corey Gutierrez tied for third (23.60). In the final of the 50 breast stroke, Barnosky won (24.34). Dahle won the 50 free final with a time of 20.19.
In the 200 IM, Barnosky was third (1:54.53). Kevin Jackson won the 200 free (1:39.88) and was second in the 500 free (4:39.15).
In the final event of the meet, the Falcons took second and third in the 200 free relay. The team of George Frank, Davis, Mount and Michael Hannigan was second (1:21.37) and the team of Symen Ooms, Lars Knutson, Dahle and Blake Lawrie was third (1:21.79).
In diving, the Falcons then took the top three places in 1-meter as Nathanael Zillweger won with 320.63 points while A.J. Eckebrecht was second (261.08) and Erich Drollinger was third (257.03). In 3-meter, Zillweger won (357.75) while Drollinger was third (270.52).
The men’s and women’s diving teams will host the Air Force Diving Invitational, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 5-6, at the Cadet Natatorium. The men’s swimming team is idle until the Western Athletic Conference Championships, Feb. 24-27, in Houston, Texas.
Denver:
Colorado Springs, Colo. – The University of Denver men’s swimming and diving team fell to Air Force Academy on Saturday by a final score of 217-161.
The men’s 200 medley relay team of Kyle Robrock (Savage, Minn.), Tim Cottam (Sydney, Austalia), Ben Guillory (Meadows Place, Texas) and Ray Bornman (Mackay, Queensland) earned a second place finish with a time of 1:28.97. Anton Loncar (Hillsboro, Oreg.), Travis Greenwald (Wilton, Iowa), Ben Ussery (Austin, Texas) and Luke Williams (Scottsdale, Ariz.) earned a fourth place finish with a time of 1:32.79.
Williams finished second overall in the 200 yard freestyle event with a time of 1:39.98, followed by Bunch in third (1:40.79) and Jared Smith (Boulder City, Nev.) in fifth with a time of 1:42.23.
Dylan Bunch (Boulder City, Nev.) won the men’s 500 yard freestyle event with a fast time of 4:35.05. Smith earned a third place finish in the same race (4:40.15), while teammate Kyle Ewoldt (Gilbert, Ariz.) finished fourth (4:40.48).
Robrock won the 50 yard butterfly with a finals time of 21.90, while Guillory finished close behind in second place with a finals time of 22.11. Robrock also won the 50 yard freestyle race with a finals time of 20.37.
Loncar placed second overall in the 50 yard backstroke event (23.14), while Cottam earned a second place finish of his own in the 50 yard breaststroke race (25.09), followed by Guillory in third (25.84).
Cottam led the men’s team with a first place finish in the 200 yard IM (1:52.91), while teammate Ben Severino(Des Moines, Iowa) earned a second place finish (1:53.51) and Ewoldt finished fourth overall (1:54.81) in the same race.
Bornman, Robrock, Loncar and Guillory won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:21.15 and DU’s second relay team of Smith, Ussery, Connor Corrigan (Boulder, Colo.) and Aaron Sexton (Louisville, KY) finished fourth overall with a time of 1:25.64.
The men’s diving team also showed a strong performance in today’s meet. Ryan Reed (Springdale, Ark.) finished fourth overall in the one meter diving event with a final score of 227.03, while teammate Jackson Martin (Boulder, Colo.) finished fifth overall (196.88). Reed placed second in the three meter diving event (280.42), while Martin finished fifth with a final score of 199.65.
