The Air Force women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to College Station, Texas, for the annual Mountain West Conference Championships, Feb. 15-18.
The Falcons will be led by senior team captain Genevieve Miller, a three-time conference champion in both the 500 free and 1650 free. She will look to become the first swimmer in Mountain West history to win two events in each of her four years. Miller currently ranks first in the MW in both the 500 and 165 and also ranks seventh in the MW 200 free (1:48.810). Nationally, she ranks 27th in the 500 free and 24th in the 1650 free. She holds the Air Force, Mountain West and Mountain West Championships record in both events and earned honorable mention All-American honors in both events at the NCAA Championships last season.
Freshman Lydia Knutson burst onto the scene at Air Force by breaking the school record in the 50 free three times this season. Her best time, 22.90, is the third fastest time in the MW. Knutson also ranks seventh in the conference in the 100 free with a time of 50.24.
Sophomore Elise Hart, an all-conference honoree last season, ranks fifth in the MW in the 100 fly (54.46).
Air Force’s highest finish ever at the conference meet was fifth in 2002. The Falcons placed sixth in 2003, 2014 and 2015.
The MW Championships will be the final team competition for head coach Casey Converse, who is retiring at the end of the season after coaching for 29 years at the Academy. Over his Air Force career, the 1976 United States Olympian has coached 32 individuals who have earned NCAA Division I and Division II All-America honors 178 times.
