AKRON, Ohio – After a strong first day of competition, the Akron Swimming and Diving team closed out the Akron Zips Classic in first place with a second day full of strong finishes.
The morning session opened with the women’s 200 yard freestyle relay, in which the Zips swept the podium. Relay Z finished at the 1:31.42 mark and Relay I came in at 1:33.73 and Relay P touched the wall at 1:34.25.
The following event saw Akron again take the top three spots. Weronika Gorecka won the women’s 400 yard IM with Astrid Halvorsen taking second and Giovanna Cappabianca finished third. The five Akron swimmers in the event all finished in the top seven.
The 100 yard butterfly had four Zips in the top five with Abigail Daniel and Rachel Sabotin going 1-2.
Kaja Reinhardt was the only Akron swimmer to compete in the 200 yard freestyle and with her time of 1:51.57 took home the title. The only swim event in the morning session that did not feature a Zip in the top spot was the 100 yard breaststroke, but Akron still had four of the six fastest times.
After both Madelyn Gatrall and Rebecca Reid both set new Akron Zips Classic records yesterday, the two swimmers went first and second in the 100 yard backstroke today.
Akron opened the second session with a first and second finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Gatrall, Claire Cox, Daniel, and Reid was the top time of 1:39.47.
In the longest race of the meet, Elle Couture swam a 17:03.13 1650 yard freestyle, with teammate Astrid Halvorsen coming in right behind her with a time of 17:09.51.
Gorecka won her second event of the evening with a 1:55.70 time in the 200 yard backstroke. Reid had a 2:00.99 to take second place in the event.
For the third time in the day, the Zips had the top three spots in an event. This time it was Abigail Daniel (first – 50.12), Kaja Reinhardt (second – 50.48) and Mia Latimer (third – 511.72) in the 100 yard freestyle.
Cappabianca won the 200 yard breaststroke by six tenths of a second. Kendall Craig and Joelle Vogelmann both had times that put them in the top four.
The 200 yard butterfly again featured an Akron swept with Rachel Sabotin taking first place with 2:00.29. Maggie Patterson came in second followed by Hannah Trainer in third.
Reid, Gorecka, Sabotin, and Daniel closed out the Akron Zips Classic with a win for Akron in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The Zips relay teams also took home second and third to finish the day in a similar fashion as the first event – with Akron sweeping the event.

AKRON, Ohio – Xavier men’s swimming took first place and the women finished third, with a new school record for Jordyn Libler, after the final day of the Akron Zips Classic.
Next up, Xavier heads to Denison for the final dual of the fall on Saturday, Oct. 28, set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
WOMEN’S NOTABLE |
- To open the morning session, the squad of Olivia Oyster, Alexis Worrall, Molly Dynda and Erin Merke led the Musketeers in the 200 free relay, setting a time of 1:35.78.
- Emily Guerrera’s time of 4:34.19 in the 400 IM led the Musketeers.
- Erin Ritz placed third in the 100 fly with a time of 55.62.
- Alexis Worrall placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.17. Clara Keiser finished third and Olivia Oyster placed fourth.
- Jordyn Libler set a new school record and placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.65.
- Reese Turner led Xavier with a time of 56.42 in the 100 back.
- To open the evening session, Reese Turner, Jordyn Libler, Erin Ritz and Olivia Oyster led Xavier with a time of 1:43.93 in the 200 medley relay.
- Sydney Smith set a time of 17:39.66 in the mile to lead Xavier.
- Charlie Ramey led Xavier with a time of 2:03.43 in the 200 back.
- Alexis Worrall set a time of 51.79 in the 100 free to lead the Musketeers.
- Jordyn Libler placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.68.
- Erin Ritz set a time of 2:05.18 in the 200 fly to lead Xavier
- Xavier’s women closed out the meet with Olivia Oyster, Mary Sweetman, Alexis Worrall and Clara Keiser setting a time of 3:28.57 in the 400 free relay.
- Xavier’s women finished third with 710 points.

MEN’S NOTABLE |
- Xavier took two of the top three spots in the 200 free relay, with Aiden Leamer, Caleb Petranchuk, Matthew Adanin and Colin Jordan taking second with a time of 1:23.38.
- Jack Parker won the 4:00.59 with a time of 4:00.59. Nathan Wall placed second.
- Aiden Leamer took the top spot in the 100 fly with a time of 48.11.
- Xavier took the top four spots in the 200 free relay, led by a time of 1:40.67 for Kyle Hudson, followed by Luke Peterson, Ryan Knipp and CJ Sorensen.
- Ethan Saunders placed third in the 100 breast with a time of 56.76.
- Xavier took five of the top six spots in the 100 back, with Michael Benington placing second with a time of 50.77. He was followed in by Gage Hannewyk, Matt Fralic, Matthew Adanin and Aiden Neuman.
- Xavier’s men took a second and third place finish in the. 200 medley relay, with Gage Hannewyk, Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer and Kyle Hudson placing second with a time of 1:31.08.
- Luke Peterson won the mile with a time of 15:46.21. Ryan Knipp placed third and Caz Mikula placed fourth.
- Michael Benington placed third in the 200 back with a time of 1:52.41. Aiden Neuman placed fourth.
- Kyle Hudson finished second in the 100 free with a time of 45.61.
- Nathan Wall set a time of 2:03.49 in the 200 breast to place second.
- Aiden Leamer placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:51.05. Seth Kibler, Jack Parker and Caleb Petranchuk finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.
- Xavier closed out the meet by taking three of the top four spots in the 400 free relay, led by a time of 3:03.57 for Kyle Hudson, Aiden Leamer, CJ Sorensen and Gage Hannewyk.
- Xavier’s men took first with 1,203 points, topping Youngstown State and Denison.
