Alberto Razzetti Snares Italian Record In 200 Fly At ISL Match 7

2021 INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING LEAGUE – SEASON 3, MATCH 7

Toronto Titan Alberto Razzetti continued his run of strong swims during Season 3 of the International Swimming League (ISL) on Friday, resetting the Italian Record en route to winning the men’s 200 butterfly during Match 7.

Razzetti, 22, jumped out to the race lead on the second 50 and pulled away on the third, roaring to a decisive victory in a time of 1:51.20.

That clocking downs the previous Italian Record of 1:51.98, set by Federico Burdisso in March, and also annihilates Razzetti’s previous best time of 1:52.59, done just one week prior at Match 5.

Split Comparison

Burdisso, Previous Record Razzetti, New Record Razzetti, Previous PB
24.83 24.98 24.94
28.62 (53.45) 28.31 (53.29) 28.68 (53.62)
28.96 (1:22.41) 28.34 (1:21.63) 29.30 (1:22.92)
29.57 (1:51.98) 29.57 (1:51.20) 29.67 (1:52.59)

As the splits show, Razzetti’s 28.34 third 50 was the key difference-maker relative to both his previous best and Burdisso’s old record. It was also what won him the race during the match, out-splitting the next-fastest swimmer (teammate Jay Lelliott) by almost half a second.

Razzetti also won the men’s 400 IM (4:01.59) and took third in the 200 IM (1:53.59) at Match 7, scoring a total of 34.0 points as the Titans (529.5) finished second to the Cali Condors (581.0).

The two-time European Championship medalist’s time in the 400 IM was just .02 shy of his Italian Record of 4:01.57, which he set during Match 5. That performance broke the oldest Italian Record on the books, with the previous mark of 4:01.71 having been set by Luca Marin back at the 2006 European SC Championships.

Razzetti ranks 32nd in ISL MVP scoring through Match 7 with 82.0 total points.

The Lavagna, Italy native made his Olympic debut this summer in Tokyo, placing eighth in the men’s 400 IM and ninth in the 200 IM.

At the 2021 LC European Championships in May, Razzetti won silver in the 400 IM and bronze in the 200 IM.
