Albion Delivers on Day 2 of Back to Back Dual Meets

In an unusual twist, Albion Coach Jake Taber said his team swam better on the second day of back-to-back dual meets.

Derek Bosko won the sprint freestyle events and carried the Britons to a come-from-behind victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay and Sebastian Tostado won the 200 free and 200 IM as Albion lost a dual meet to the College of Wooster, 158-130.

Albion was trailing when Bosko dove in for the final leg of the relay, but he swam his 50 yards in 21.29 seconds for a final time of 1:29.75 for a quarter of a second margin of victory over Wooster’s ‘A’ team. David Alday, Nick Deppner and Nick Burris swam the first three legs.

In individual events, Bosko achieved times of 22.24 seconds in the 50 free and 48.22 seconds in the 100. Tostado’s winning times were 1:45.98 in the 200 free and 2:00.63 in the 200 IM. Tostado also earned runner-up points in the 100 butterfly (53.87 seconds).

Andrew Mattson produced 12 points in the distance freestyle events, setting a time of 10:50.78 to win the 1,000 by less than two seconds over Wooster’s James Lorenzin and finishing third in the 500 in 5:14.97.

The 500 free was Albion’s most productive event, with Blake Blair taking first (5:03.07) and Alday coming in second (5:12.00).

The homestretch of the dual season starts with a Jan. 24 home meet against Wabash. Albion’s final dual meet is a Jan. 30 home meet against Olivet.

WOOSTER, Ohio – Meghan Meader secured first place in both diving events and Laura Steavenson won the 500-yard freestyle in Albion’s 173-108 loss at the College of Wooster.

Meader achieved a season-best 200.40 score in six dives off the 3-meter board. Her final score in 1-meter was 182.75. Steavenson’s 500 time was 5:27.49 and she swam the third leg of the Britons runner-up team in the 200 free relay.

Albion secured the first, second, and third place points in the 200 IM when Wooster’s top athlete was entered as an exhibition. Sarah Kilbride reaped nine points by finishing in 2:21.73 and Kylene Slocum and Mackenzie Chesley collected the second and third place points, respectivlely.

Anna Hargrove finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:03.08), third in the 100 freestyle (56.78 seconds) and she was a member of the Britons runner-up team in the 200 medley relay.
