Alex Walsh, Peter Varjasi Named ACC Swimmers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State claimed three of the final Atlantic Coast Conference weekly swimming and diving awards as Peter Varjasi and David Vargas earned the Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, and Samantha Vear was named the Women’s Diver of the Week. Virginia’s Alex Walsh secured Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors. The 2024 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships will be contested next week, Feb. 20-24, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

ACC MEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Peter Varjasi, Fifth year, Florida State, Erlangen, Germany

Varjasi picked up two individual wins in No. 16 FSU’s day at the Auburn First Chance Invitational. He finished first in the 50 free (19.50) and 100 free (42.43) and swam a personal best in the 100 fly (46.07) for a second-place finish. Those times all qualified as NCAA B cut times.

ACC WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Alex Walsh, Sr., Virginia, Nashville, Tennessee

Walsh earned a pair of NCAA A cut times and set two pool records at the Cavalier Invitational. She swam the second-fastest time in an NCAA meet this season in the 200 back (1:50.19) and tied the fifth-fastest time in the country in the 100 breast (57.89).

ACC MEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
David Vargas, Sr., Florida State, Mexico City, Mexico

Vargas collected two wins on the 3-meter and platform event. On the 3-meter, the senior scored a 372.00 to secure the win before posting a 389.05 on platform. Vargas earned the win on platform by six points after competing a dive list with a 20.0 degree of difficulty and scoring above 70 points on two dives. He placed second on the 1-meter (355.50) to his teammate by just under two points.

ACC WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
Samantha Vear, Sr., Florida State, Conroe, Texas

Vear swept the diving events and notched a pair of personal best scores at the Auburn First Chance Invitational. On the 1-meter, she scored a 323.18 before taking down the 2013 program record on the 3-meter with a 380.18.
