Alexandra Walsh Breaks 3rd National Age Group Record of the Weekend

Alexandra Walsh of the Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club in Connecticut has broken her 3rd 11-12 National Age Group Record of the weekend at the 2014 Connecticut Age Group Championships.

The latest was the biggest stunner of them all, as she swam a 2:15.64 in the 200 breaststroke to win the event by 11 seconds and break Annie Zhu’s 2007 record of 2:16.16 in the event.

It’s rarely surprising anymore when a swimmer that breaks one record breaks another in the same meet; Walsh’s record breaking swim in the 100 back on Saturday night was of little surprise, for example.

But Walsh, while a very good breaststroker coming into this meet, was certainly nowhere in sight of this record headed into Sunday. She’d never been faster than 2:24 in the 200; her first 100 split on Sunday was almost her lifetime best over 100 yards (1:04.98). She cracked 9 seconds off of her lifetime best in the race.

Though her 100 back record has already been broken (just a few hours after Walsh set it), her IM future looks impressive.

Her best time in the 200 IM is a 2:07, though she didn’t swim that race this weekend.

Congrats to Miss Walsh for another great performance.
I didn’t expect that record.
Too bad she hasn’t swum the 200 IM. 😥
With her amazing shape, she could have broken the American record!
More seriously, she’s in Baker mode.
This weekend we have seen 2 swimmers great on breaststroke and on backstroke. And they are very good on butterfly and freestyle too.
Fantastic IM future for both girls.
