Alexis Mesina Crushes National Age Group Record in 100 Breaststroke

10-year old Alexis Mesina of the Pleasanton Seahawks has crushed the National Age Group Record in the 100 yard breaststroke. Swimming at a local age group meet hosted by the Brentwood Sea Wolves 3 weeks ago, Mesina swam a 1:07.30(beating a teammate named Brooke Bennett, but not that Brooke Bennett) for the win.

That broke the 10 & under national record of 1:08.07 that was set 4 years ago by Meghan Lynch of the Greenwich YWCA Dolphins Swim Team in Connecticut. Lynch’s swim broke the prior record by almost 2 seconds. She remains one of only seven 10 & unders in history to go under 1:10 in the event.

Mesina’s prior best time in the event was a 1:08.49 done in August. Adam McDonald, the boys’ NAG Record holder, is the only 10 & under of either gender to have been faster t han her – he swam 1:06.95 in 2015.

Lynch retains the record in the 50 breaststroke with a 31.73.

Mesina’s other swims at the meet:

  • 50 free – 26.89 (1st)
  • 100 free – 57.84 (1st)
  • 50 back – 29.59 (1st)
  • 50 breast – 32.11 (1st)
  • 100 breast – 1:07.30 (1st)
  • 50 fly – 29.82 (1st)
  • 200 IM – 2:16.65 (1st)
  • 400 IM – 4:44.60 (1st in age group 2nd overall)

Quite an accomplishment to swim all four strokes that well. Keep up the hard work. Not far from the 50 BR record either.

Yes, she is much better at the stokes than an american record holder in the 100 yard breaststroke that I swam against in the early 1970’s. She is swimming close to the elite breastsrokers in the early to mid 1970’s that were teenagers or in their early 20’s.

Ms Messina, I don’t know you, but great job! Please keep enjoying swimming! Make time for other play activities! Enjoy yourself! Swimming is so much fun and a great blessing.

1:08.07 to 1:07.30, how is that “almost 2 seconds”?

The author clearly says that the previous record holder dropped the record by 2 seconds. From over 1:10 to 1:08.07
