Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Alexis Nelson from Chelsea, Michigan has verbally committed to stay in-state and swim for Division III Hope College.
Nelson, who swims for the Dexter Community Aquatics Club and Chelsea High School, is primarily (and almost exclusively) a sprint freestyler.
At the 2019 Michigan High School Division III (small schools) State Championship meet, which was held in Hope College’s home town of Holland, Nelson finished 11th in the 50 free (24.76) and 19th in the 100 free (54.74). She also split 54.2 on a rolling start for Chelsea High School’s 400 free relay.
Best Times in Yards:
- 50 free – 24.33
- 100 free – 53.40
- 200 free – 1:59.73
Nelson projects to be an immediate contributor for Hope. Her best time in the 50 free would have ranked 3rd on the team last season, behind then-sophomore Meg Peel (23.79) and then-freshman Alli Eppings (23.87). Peel has since transferred to Alabama. Nelson’s best time in the 100 free would have ranked 2nd behind only Eppings (51.64). Both times would also place her in the A final at the MIAA Championships, which Hope won last season in coach John Patnott’s last season before retirement.

Meg Peel transferred to Alabama
Wondered this last year and didn’t find out: Rob Peel’s daughter?
Yes, she is.
DIII – thanks for the reminder. I even wrote the Meg Peel article, so that totally should’ve been on my radar. Oops!
