Alexis Wenger Breaks 13-14 National Age Group Record in 100 Breaststroke

Alexis Wenger of the Grosse Point Gators has broken the 13-14 girl’s National Age Group Record in the 100 yard breaststroke during prelims on Wednesday morning at the NCSA Spring Championship in Orlando, Florida.

Wenger swam a 1:00.02, which broke her own record of 1:00.75, and she held the record before that as well with a 1:00.98 (done when she was only 13).

Comparative splits

  • Wenger ’13: 28.30 + 32.68 = 1:00.98
  • Wenger ’14: 28.70 + 32.05 = 1:00.75
  • Wenger ’15: 28.00 + 32.02 = 1:00.02

As Wenger’s swimming has matured, she’s taken an interesting progression, Whereas in her first record-breaking swim, she was very fast in the first 50, that front-half became more relaxed in 2014 when she improved her back-half. Now, she’s put her best front-half together with her best back-half, and almost became the youngest swimmer in history to go under a minute in the event.

The second-fastest 13-14 girl of all-time in the event is Allie Raab, who swam a 1:00.84 at last weekend’s Pennsylvania High School State Championship meet.

In finals, the race will change to long course. Wenger’s best time is a 1:12.84 in a 50 meter pool. The record in that race is a 1:08.09, done by Amanda Beard in 1996 – where she was an Olympic medalist.

Amazing record. 😯 Total destruction.
Miss Wenger loves that meet. Last year she broke for the first time the NAG record in 1.00.98.
Too bad she will not have the chance to break it again in final. Unfortunately that’s in LCM.
She has without any doubt a great future ahead of her.
