Ally Howe Breaks Missy Franklin’s National Independent High School Record in 100 Back at CCS Prelims

A full prelims recap will follow.

Ally Howe, a senior at Sacred Heart Prep, has broken the National Independent High School Record in the 100 yard backstroke on Friday. During prelims of California’s Central Coast Section Championships, Howe swam a 51.84, which broke the National Independent High School Record held by the defending World and Olympic Champion Missy Franklin.

In 2011, Franklin was a 52.30 at the Colorado State Championship meet, and Howe cleared that by half-a-second.

The overall National High School Record is a 51.43 done in 2012 by current Georgia Bulldog Olivia Smoliga.

Howe, who is committed to Stanford, took the 2nd seed in the 200 IM prelim in 2:00.88 in her other race.
