After a stellar showing in yesterday’s 200 meter back, Olympian Brandonn Almeida continued to impress on day 2 of the 2016 Brazil Open. Almeida picked up another gold medal in tonight’s 400 meter IM final, winning the race in a blazing 4:12.49. That time marked his second lifetime best in as many days.
Two Brazilian stars went head-to-head in the men’s 50 meter breast, as Joao Gomes and Felipe Franca battled for the gold. The two swimmers are among the best breaststrokers in the world, as they each made the championship final of the 100 breast at this summer’s 2016 Rio Olympic Games. In tonight’s dash to the finish, it was Franca getting his hand on the wall first in 27.33, while Gomes took silver in 27.42.
The top women’s races on day 2 came in the 200 meter free and 50 meter breast, as the Championship Records fell in both of those races. First, Jhennifer Conceição downed the record mark in the 50 breast, hitting the wall in 31.08 to win the gold. In the 200 free, it was Manuella Lyrio who took down the record, swimming to a winning time of 1:58.25.

I would have to say USC Is probably going to win secs with this kid next year…with the addition of him it’s going to be hard to match the gamecocks strength.
You can’t win secs on the back of one person. He’ll help them but they won’t win.
Agree. It’s still a great move by SC, could open the door to bring on board more Brazilian talent – specifically sprinters.
This seems to be the way to elevate your program these days: build your team around sprinters, recruit foreign talent to build up your sprint group.
Unless he’s going to develop 18/41 free speed, they’ll still be bottom tier.
