Aussie mainstay Emily Seebohm has already won bronze in the women’s 100m backstroke day 3 but this evening she added yet another accolade to her storied swimming career. Although falling 4th and just shy of the podium here in Budapest Seebohm’s 50m backstroke time of 27.37 checks-in as a new Australian national record Oceanic as well as Commonwealth Record.
Entering the meet, Seebohm’s personal best sat at the 27.47 clocked while winning the national title at the 2015 Australian Championships. In tonight’s race, the 25-year-old double world champion from 2015 shaved .10 off of that outing to wind up must .15 out of a medal spot.
For Seebohm having been dealing with an endometriosis diagnosis that left the Olympian in pain and onto the operating table over the past year, she was extremely pleased with her 100m bronze and now has a new sprint back record to stand with it.
With her result tonight, Seebohm now slides into the 9th spot in the faster performers of all-time.
