The 2018 American East Championships kicked off with the 800 free and 200 medley relays, as well as the women’s 1 meter and men’s 3 meter diving. New Hampshire jumped out to the early lead in the women’s meet, while UMBC did the same in the men’s meet. The UMBC men’s team broke the meet record in the 200 medley relay.
The UMBC women’s 800 free relay team of Laura Massicotte (1:50.28), Natalija Marin (1:50.82), Brittany Driscoll (1:50.10), and Hania Moro (1:49.18) combined to post a 7:20.38 to win by 6 seconds. They dropped an astonishing 17 seconds from their seed time, which had them seed 2nd behind 3rd place finisher Vermont.
UMBC also won the men’s 800 free relay, with the team of Philip Adejumo (1:38.94), Nikola Trajkovic (1:39.18), Jonah Pennington (1:40.10), and Alexander Gliese (1:38.27) combining to post a 6:36.49. They won by 14 seconds over Binghamton. UMBC also had the 4 fastest splits overall in the field.
In the women’s 200 medley relay, New Hampshire pulled off a relatively tight race against Vermont, posting a 1:41.95 to Vermont’s 1:42.54. New Hampshire outsplit Vermont 54.30 to 54.90 on the 1st 100, and pretty much broke even with Vermont on the 2nd 100.
The UMBC men’s medley relay of Alexander Gliese, Jared Vance, Philip Adejumo, andIlia Rattsev combined to go a 1:28.61, breaking the meet record of 1:28.91 from 2011. The team was led by a quick 20.97 fly split out of Adejumo.
