American Laura Sogar Qualifies first in the 200 breaststroke – World Short Course Championships – Day 5 Preliminaries

Men’s 200 backstroke

American Ryan Lochte qualified first in a time of 1:49.71, “I actually felt really crap this morning. All the races I have done last week are starting to catch up. But it is the last day of the tournament, and there is always something left in the tank.”

Lochte also shared his expectations for his races on the final night of competition, “I just wanna be satisfied with racing. I do so many races because I like to do it. I’ve got three more races coming up tonight and it is going to be a hard triple, but I just do it because I like it.”

Fellow American Ryan Murphy qualified second in a time of 1:50.60 with Radoslaw Kawecki of Poland qualifying third in a time of 1:50.92.

Women’s 200 breaststroke

Laura Sogar of the United States qualified first in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:17.85.

Rikke Moeller Pedersen of Denmark qualified second in a time of 2:18.65.

“It went OK,” said Pedersen. “It’s a typical morning race, a bit heavy, but yesterday (Saturday) night felt good so I hope tonight will be better.”

Russian Maria Temnikova qualified third in a time of 2:20.96.

Men’s 200 butterfly

Russian Nikolay Skvortsov qualified first in a time of 1:52.64. Kazuya Kaneda of Japan qualified second in a time of 1:53.14 with Hungarian Laszlo Cseh qualifying third in a time of 1:53.26.

“It was good for the morning,” said Cseh. “I hope I will be faster in the final.”

“I hope I have a chance for a gold. This year I have been very unlucky in the short course.”

“I need to rebuild myself. It’s taking a bit longer that I thought.

“(I can feel) I’m a bit older than two years ago so it’s kind of different, but we’ll work on it and be fine for the world championships in Barcelona, hopefully.”

Women’s 200 freestyle

Hungarian Zsuzsanna Jakabos qualified first in a time of 1:55.24. Veronika Popova of Russia qualified second in a time of 1:55.28 with Haruka Ueda of Japan qualifying third in a time of 1:55.32.

Ryan Lochte doesn’t need to give out medals to have the press talk about him.

Tough double , we could see that in the 100 IM But all credits to Ryan Lochte to win the race . Very tight race . 7 th medal in ther pocket , what an accomplishment this week .

Lochte got second on the 200 back , outtouched on the wall !!!!!! what a close race with Murphy ( 3d/ 1.48.86 ) Very happy for Kawecky( 1.48.48) , he swam so well very close to Ryan (1.48.50)

Lochte just can’t double that 200 back anymore and it showed in both races. He needs to either drop it or just swim that one event on the days it’s scheduled.
