Amy Fulmer and Morgan Kraus Returning to Ohio State for 5th Years in 2023-2024 Season

Amy Fulmer and Morgan Kraus will both be returning to Ohio State to use their COVID-19 fifth year during the 2023-2024 school year, the school confirmed to SwimSwam.

Fulmer has been a huge contributor in her first three years with OSU. Fulmer made huge strides this past season, winning the 200 free at Big Tens in a 1:43.73. She also was second in the 50 and 100 frees swimming times of 21.71 and 47.46. Both were personal best times. She finished behind Michigan senior Maggie MacNeil who is now taking her fifth year at LSU, meaning that Fulmer is the top returner for all three events.

She went on to swim at NCAAs swimming times of 21.88 in the 50 free to finish 11th and 48.53 to finish 32nd. Notably, her best time in the 50 free from Big Tens would have bumped her into the A final if she swam it in prelims. In addition, her 100 free best time from Big Tens would have also earned her an A final swim.

She also has been a huge contributor to Ohio State’s relays. She swam on all five of the teams relays at 2022 NCAAs. All of their relays scored points, and the team was highlighted by a third place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Fulmer continued her success in the long course season and finished fourth in the 100 back at US Summer Nationals as well as ninth in both the 50 and 100 freestyles. She went on to represent the US at Duel in the Pool back in August.

See Fulmer’s progression below:

Prior to OSU Freshman Sophomore Junior
50 free 23.5 22.27 22.32 21.71
100 free 49.8 48.44 48.69 47.46
200 free N/A 1:52.07 1:46.24 1:43.46
100 back 54.42 53.40 55.39 53.82

Kraus will return to OSU for her fifth year. Primarily a butterfly and backstroke, Kraus has made contributions to the team at the conference level.

This past season, Kraus went personal best times in all three of her individual events at Big Tens. She finished eighth in the 100 fly swimming a time of 52.76, ninth in the 200 back swimming a time of 1:54.27, and 13th in the 100 back with a 53.06. Kraus finished the season with the team’s second fastest 200 back time of the year.

Although she did not swim at NCAAs, she was not far off what it took to qualify. It took a 52.35 in the 100 fly, 52.46 in the 100 back, and a 1:53.97 in the 200 back. She has already been a 52.30 in the 100 fly this season as she swam that at midseason so her momentum is continuing in the right direction.

Both Fulmer and Kraus have been huge impacts for the Buckeyes in the last three seasons. Notably, the team has won the Big Ten Championship in each of the seasons both swimmers have been with the team. At 2022 Big Tens, Fulmer was the teams highest individual scorer as she scored 88 points. Kraus was also a key contributor, scoring 56 individual points.

In addition to Fulmer and Kraus returning for a fifth year, breaststroke Hannah Bach will also return for a fifth year, meaning that out of the 306 individual points scored from the junior class at Big Tens last year, at least 203 will be returning for a fifth year.

Loving all this recent OSU coverage by SS. Two top 10 teams the last couple years. Tremendous young people. Excited to see more from both Amy and Morgan!
