Gorbenko heads into semifinals tonight as the top seed and will have another chance to improve upon her record. She now sits at #16 in the World so far this season in the event. She notably swam the event last summer at 2023 Worlds finishing 29th in a 1:08.66. The event was not in her lineup at 2024 Worlds when she won silver in the 400 IM.

Gorbenko has been on a roll lately, posting numerous Israeli National Records in the last month. She holds a total of 10 LCM national records. Just last night, she set the 200 freestyle record swimming a 1:56.74, helping the team’s 4×200 free relay to a European Title as well as a national record. She also has broken national records in the 200 back (2:08.54), 200 IM (2:08.55), and 400 IM (4:34.79).

She came into the meet as the top seed in both IM events and was the #4 seed in the 100 breast.

Update: Gorbenko has scratched the semifinal of the event.

Which events will she swim in Paris aside from the medleys?

For sure 2 relays (200FR and Mixed IM) as for the other strokes (she qualified in 100/200 BK, 100 BR, 200FR) most of them have schedule issues, so I suppose she will choose based on her in-week achievements and yet I doubt she will swim ant of those (maybe the 100BR?).

Surprised she got a better time than Jacoby!

She has better coaching than Jacoby does at UT and Jacoby is a full time student. Still, Ms. Gorbenko has made great strides this year. Hopefully, she will medal in something.

She has scratched from tonight’s semi, so this morning prelims swim is most likely an all-out effort from her.

Could be. The 100BR is not her strongest swim (as we know) and yet she would have medaled here. I’m quite sure she picked this one to check her status as part of planning Israel’s Mixed-Medley team for Paris. There are few options for the 2 first strokes (MF, FM) and she wanted to give the team another option.
The scratch tonight is probably because she’s going to lead the BK stroke in the Mixed Medley final in hope for another European Gold.
