Anderson Breaks Program Wins Record, Sweeps Manchester Quadrangular

The Anderson University women’s swimming and diving team broke the program wins record after sweeping Saturday’s Manchester quadrangular in North Manchester.

Anderson (7-3, 3-2) cruised to a 200-42 victory against Manchester University (2-6, 0-2). The Ravens coasted to a 195-47 win against NCAA Division II’s Urbana University (2-8). Anderson took down Olivet College (5-8) with a 190-73 victory.

“The women must take pride in their 2019-2020 regular season successes,” Coach Tanner Barton said. “They swam exceptionally well [on Saturday] and were clearly the strongest team in North Manchester. The women have really come on strong as of late. Thanks to their incredible performances today, they are currently 6-1 since Jan. 1. This season they clinched seven dual meet victories, which is the most in program history.”

Halle Strege took first place 11-dive 1-meter diving event, breaking the school record with a score of 393.15 points. The freshman from McCordsville averaged 35.74 points per dive. Strege’s 11-dive 1-meter score currently leads the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC).

“Halle had another phenomenal day on the board. She debuted two new 1-meter dives [on Saturday] and reset her program record in the 11-dive 1-meter event by scoring 393.15 points.”

Anderson put together a 200-yard medley relay of Aubrey Davis, Lillia Mitchell, Tess Maubach and Lily Hunter, which claimed first with a time of 1 minute, 59.03 seconds. The Ravens also fielded a 400 freestyle relay of Davis, Claire Leibold, Tess Maubach and Hunter, which earned first (3:57.28).

Davis secured first in the 50 backstroke with a time of 29.82 seconds. The sophomore from Centerville, Ind. locked up first (1:04.48) in the 100 backstroke.

“Aubrey did a fantastic job [on Saturday], clinching both the 50- and 100-yard backstroke victories while helping our program secure victories in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.”

Hopp took first in the 1,000 freestyle with a season-best time of 11:44.05. The sophomore from Downers Grove, Ill. ranks fifth in the HCAC in the 1,000 freestyle. Hopp also earned first (5:42.78) in the 500 freestyle and placed fourth (2:35.35) in the 200 individual medley.

Tess Maubach claimed second in the 50 butterfly with a season-best time of 28.97 seconds. The sophomore from Bloomington, Ill. ranks fourth in the HCAC in the 50 butterfly. Tess Maubach also finished second (1:05.24) in the 100 butterfly.

Mitchell captured first (2:27.74) in the 200 individual medley. The sophomore from Crawfordsville put together second-place finishes in the 50 breaststroke (34.49) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.22). Mitchell clocked a season-best time in the 50 breaststroke, which ranks fifth in the HCAC.

Brooke Denouden took second (2:08.73) in the 200 freestyle. The freshman from Lake Orion, Mich. placed third in the 50 butterfly (29.48) and the 500 freestyle (5:45.42). Denouden raced to a PR in the 50 butterfly, which ranks sixth in the HCAC.

Hunter locked up first (26.13) in the 50 freestyle. The freshman from Westfield claimed first (58.35) in the 100 freestyle.

Alaina Buroker won the five-dive 1-meter event in her season debut with a score of 73.85 points and an average of 14.77 points per dive.

Leibold took second (11:58.33) in the 1,000 freestyle, second (5:45.20) in the 500 freestyle and third (1:18.07) in the 100 breaststroke. The sophomore from Dayton, Ohio put together a PR time of 36.57 seconds in the 50 breaststroke.

Emma Maubach posted a second-place finish (59.90) in the 100 freestyle. The senior from Bloomington, Ill. placed third (2:09.37) in the 200 freestyle.

Jessica Pulaski claimed fourth in the 200 freestyle with a PR time of 2:47.11. The sophomore from Centerville, Ohio finished third (2:29.20) in the 200 individual medley and fourth (1:10.09) in the 100 butterfly.

Tori Haessig locked up third (1:05.37) in the 100 butterfly. The sophomore from Sunman took fourth in the 50 butterfly with a PR time of 29.86 seconds.

Ashley Daulton captured third (1:09.98) in the 100 backstroke. The sophomore from Batesville earned fourth (1:01.02) in the 100 freestyle.

Erin Aliff claimed fourth (34.57) in the 50 backstroke. The freshman from Thorntown put together a PR time of 30.68 seconds in the 50 freestyle.

Emalea Tragesser secured sixth in both the 50 breaststroke (51.13) and the 100 breaststroke (1:50.13). The sophomore from Tipton clocked PRs in both events.

The Ravens battle in the three-day HCAC Championships, beginning on Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. in Terre Haute.

“At the pool [on Saturday], it was obvious that our women were having fun, racing fast and clicking as one team. I’m confident this will continue into the conference championship and it will be exciting to see how well these women perform. I firmly believe the women will be making an even stronger statement later this month.”
