Andrei Minakov Destroys Andrew’s 13-14 100 Fly NAG with 54.04

STANFORD FUTURES CHAMPIONSHIPS

14-year-old Andrei Minakov of the Terrapins Swim Team broke the 13-14 National Age Group record in a big way today at the Stanford Futures Championships, taking down Michael Andrew‘s 54.59 by over half a second with 54.04.

Here are Minakov’s splits:

  • Prelims (personal best time): 25.75, 29.18: 54.93
  • Finals (NAG): 25.26, 28.78: 54.04

According to USA Swimming, Minakov has a spring birthday, so he may have a couple more chances to swim long course and lower the record.

In the women’s 200 free, 14-year-old Ella Ristic of Mission Viejo jumped from 42nd to 13th in the 13-14 all-time rankings with 2:01.72. That wasn’t fast enough to win the event, though, and Crow Canyon’s Maddie Murphy came in just ahead with 2:01.71.

On the men’s side of the 200 free, Alex Liang took the win, coming in nearly two seconds ahead of the field with 1:51.34.

Crow Canyon’s fifteen-year-old Zoie Hartman swam to 1:11.56 for the win in the women’s 100 breast, while Ripon Aquatics’ Eric Tolman took the men’s with 1:03.76.

Nikol Popov of Canyons Aquatics took the win in the women’s 100 fly with 1:01.49.

Mission Viejo’s Samantha Shelton took the women’s 400 IM with 4:51.21, while La Mirada Armada’s 15-year-old Kevin Vargas won the men’s in 4:28.21.

In the women’s 400 free relay, Santa Clara won a tight race with Palo Alto Stanford in 3:51.89, highlighted by a 56.94 third leg by Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou.
