A pair of Meet Records have already gone down in prelims of the 2013 Showcase Classic on Friday morning: both in the 100 backstroke.
First, 14-year old Nitro swimmer Regan Barney swam a 56.96 in the 100 yard backstroke. That’s about four-tenths from her best time, and in finals she and Auburn Aquatics’ Sarah Chambliss should both be in the 56-low range.
In the boy’s version of the same race, Michael Andrew broke the old Meet Record himself with a 51.60 to place atop the 13-year olds division. That’s a few tenths away from his best time as well.
Andrew also took the top seed in the 100 fly (50.59) and the 100 free (46.19). Expect Andrew to post big drops in finals, if history at this meet holds to form.
Other big morning swims include a 56.67 from 13-year old Joelle Vere in the girls’ 100 fly; that’s the fastest time overall. The aforementioned Chambliss was the fastest swimmer in the girls’ 100 free with a 51.73, followed by Poseidon’s Casey Fanz in 52.19.
On the boys’ side, 14-year old Mitchell Irwin from the host Clearwater Aquatic Team was the fastest in the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.14, ahead of Grant House in 2:11.53. Keith Myburgh led the 13-year olds race in 2:17.09.
Shane Blinkman, Hudson Area Swim Association, also broke the 12 yo boys 100 free meet record with a 50.65 in prelims

Andrew should come close to the 100 fly NAG record of 48.98 for 13-14 boys…..He’s a;ready done a 49.72; Hoffer has the fastest time this year at 49.51 for B13-14.
