There was good news and bad news for American Andrew Seliskar in the final of the men’s 200 IM. The bad news was that after being the only swimmer under two minutes in prelims, he fell to 4th place in finals and without a medal.
The good news for the 16-year old, who will get one more crack at this meet in 2015, is that he re-broke his own NAG Record in the event, swimming a 1:59.84. That shaves .07 off of his swim in prelims.
Seliskar went out a bit harder in finals than he did in prelims, pacing his swim much more similarly to the one he did at Junior Nationals a few weeks ago. That would cost him in some of his later splits, but ultimately he had enough energy for a big finish (the fastest in the final, aside from the 8th place finisher who was well back) and a new record.
The comparative splits are below:
Seliskar | Jr. Nats | 26.44 | 30.88 | 34.54 | 28.35 | 2:00.21 |
Seliskar | Prelims | 26.81 | 30.93 | 33.91 | 28.26 | 1:59.91 |
Seliskar | Finals | 26.23 | 31.14 | 34.31 | 28.16 | 1:59.84 |
Actually Aleksandr Osipenko from Russia had the fastest last leg at 27.51
