While competing on day one of the 2023 Berlin Open, Angelina Kohler produced a new German national record in the women’s 100m butterfly.

Racing in tonight’s final, 22-year-old Kohler punched a time of 57.22 to take the gold. That smashed her own previous personal best of 57.85 notched at the 2019 Swim Open Stockholm.

Splitting 26.74/30.48, Kohler also easily overtook the previous German record of 57.70 Alexandra Wenk put on the books at the 2016 German Championships.

For her effort, Kohler now qualifies for this summer’s World Championships as well as ranks 7th in the world this season.

Post-race, Kohler told the German Swimming Federation (DSV), “This record is a dream come true. I’ve been chasing it for four years now. Of course, I couldn’t have expected that I’d be able to improve it so significantly.”

Kohler is still chasing her first senior international competition medal. The Lasse Frank-coached athlete was the 50m fly bronze medalist and 100m fly silver medalist at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.
