- Short Course Yards
- Live Results
As the first yards finals session kicked off tonight in Columbia, all eyes were on the 200 free relay, the first event of the night’s slate.
Anna Hopkin, who last night at the long course session clocked a 53.94 in the 100 meter free, swam the second leg of Arkansas’ 200 free relay. There, she erupted for a 20.89 split, which is about a half-second back of Simone Manuel’s best split of all-time (20.45). That time is also just two-hundredths away from making the unofficial top ten all-time performances list.
Her time appears to be the best she’s ever split; she was 20.97 on the 200 free relay at 2019 NCAAs, while she split 21.0’s on the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay at 2019 SECs. At last year’s Mizzou Invitational, her best relay split was a 21.21 anchoring Arkansas’ 200 medley relay.
Hopkin went a lifetime best 21.48 to lead the individual 50 free prelims this morning, and her split tonight helped Arkansas to a second-place finish behind Missouri’s A relay as they turned in a 1:28.39. That sets a new school record by almost a half-second and gets under the NCAA automatic qualifying standard by .04, while Hopkin’s 50 free from this morning was under the individual 50 free ‘A’ cut on its own.
She’s on fire! That’s like a guy going 18.low in November. (If we use Dressel’s WR vs. Weitzel’s WR and add a couple of tenths to make up for Dressel not being human)
Any psych sheets or results from the meet in Greensboro?
