The University of Miami women have pulled in 2 verbal commitments, as Annie Kyriakidis and Carmen San Nicolas Martinez will be joining the Hurricanes next fall. Kyriakidis, a swimmer for Ensworth Aquatics, will make the move to Miami after graduating from Pope John Paul II High School. Martinez, on the other hand, will be traveling from Spain.
Annie Kyriakidis
Kyriakidis could have an impact for the Hurricanes across a number of events. Her versatility will give the coaching staff options to use her in the breast, fly, or IM races. Her times in the 100 and 200 breast would’ve made her their fastest breaststroker last season, so we could see her taking a medley relay spot as early as her freshman year.
Kyriakidis should have an immediate impact for the Hurricanes at the ACC Championships. Her times in the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM, and 200 fly are already good enough to have scored in the B-Final at last season’s ACC meet.

At Miami, Kyriakidis will help fill a gap in the lineup left by Julia Schippert, the team’s top breaststroker who will graduate after this season. She’ll also be an asset in the 200 IM after they graduate Christina Leander, their highest finisher in that race at ACCs.
Carmen San Nicolas Martinez
Martinez doesn’t have any yards experience yet, as she’ll make the move to Miami from Spain, but her long course bests show her potential in the sprint and middle distance freestyles. She’s represented Spain as a part of their Junior National team at high level international meets since 2014.
Most recently, she competed at the 2016 LEN European Junior Championships. There, she was a part of Spain’s relays in the 400 free relay, 800 free relay, and 400 medley relay. She helped the free relay squads on their way to a pair of gold medals.

When looking at Martinez’s best times converted into short course yards, she has the speed to be an immediate scorer at the ACC Championships.
Her 50 free and 100 free convert to 22.91 and 49.76 respectively, which would’ve been good enough to make the C-final last season. In the 200 free, her converted 1:46.84 would’ve been good for the B-final. With those times, she’s also a likely candidate for Miami’s freestyle relays.
