Another Cardinal Verbal: CIF-SS Record-Holder Katie Glavinovich

It’s not over! After receiving verbal commitments to the class of 2021 from Ashley Volpenhein, Brooke Forde, Grace Zhao, Hannah Kukurugya, Lauren Green, and Lauren Pitzer, Stanford women’s swimming and diving has pulled in another: Katie Glavinovich of Aquazot Swim Club and JSerra Catholic High School in Southern California.

“This is a dream come true,” Glavinovich said. “I can’t wait to attend and represent Stanford next year.”

Glavinovich was the backstroke lead-off leg (26.75) on the JSerra 200 medley relay that broke the CIF-Southern Section Division I record with 1:42.29 in 2015. JSerra went on to win the team title at the inaugural CIF State Meet in 2015. In 2016, Glavinovich finished second in the 500 free (4:48.30), an off-event that she had only just begun to swim. She was also fourth in the 200 IM (2:00.93).

A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Glavinovich had a breakout meet at the 2016 American Short Course Championships in Austin last March. There, she won the 400m IM and the 200m back; she placed third in the 200m IM, and sixth in the 100m back, and earned Olympic Trials cuts in all but the 100m back. She competed in the 200m back and 200/400m IM at 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, and wrapped up the summer with B-final finishes in the 200m back and 400m IM, and a C-final finish in the 200m IM.

Glavinovich has been invited to the USA Swimming National Select Camp in January. Her best SCY/LCM times are:

  • 200 back – 1:57.82 / 2:14.47
  • 100 back – 56.08 / 1:04.87
  • 50 back – 26.46 / 31.82
  • 400 IM – 4:13.89 / 4:48.61
  • 200 IM – 2:00.66 / 2:17.62

The pool is gonna be too small in Stanford.
Looks like everybody wants to be part at least one year of training with Katie Ledecky.

If Greg and Tracy can sign Penny, it would be awesome. I love to see her get her education at Stanford and swim there. At least she already knew Simone from the Rio!

I don’t know much about Gabrielle. She is a 50 back world champ from what I found the info on the web.

Stanford is still looking for a world class Breastroker I think.

Penny has an incredible coach already in Ben Titley. I’d be surprised if she moved.

Awesome! Welcome to the Farm!!! Great recruiting for Greg and Tracy.

Start recruiting of Kate Douglas. She will replace Simone after she graduates.
