Another Handful of Trials Cuts Picked Up on Final Day of Richmond Spring Cup

2021 TYR 18&UNDER SPRING CUP – RICHMOND SITE

Torri Huske, Arlington Aquatic Club 18-year-old, won another pair of events on the final day of the TYR 18&U Spring Cup in Richmond. Huske kicked off the final session with a 55.57 to win the women’s 100 free. The swim was well off the 53.46 she swam in early April, but she followed it up with a 2:12.32 to win the women’s 200 IM. Her IM was just off the 2:11.18 she swam in early April. NOVA 17-year-old Zoe Dixon came in 2nd in the IM, swimming a 2:13.89. The swim was a huge best time for Dixon, coming in well under her previous best of 2:15.28. She also picked up an Olympic Trials Wave II cut with the swim.

Daniel Diehl, an unattached 15-year-old, took the men’s 100 free in 50.65. The swim was a personal best for Diehl, coming in under her previous best of 51.28. Diehl picked up an Olympic Trials cut in the 50 free on Saturday, and came very close to grabbing another cut in the 100 (50.49).

Woodbridge Aquatic Club swim 18-year-old Arsenio Bustos won the men’s 200 IM in a tight race with Eagle Swim Team 18-year-old Colin Bitz, and Utah Valley 18-year-old Tanner Nelson. Bustos took the race out the fastest, splitting 26.59 on fly. Bitz took over on backstroke, splitting 31.50 to take the lead. Nelson was the fastest on breaststroke, splitting 36.84, then Bitz had the fastest free split in 28.55. Ultimately, Bustos got his hand on the wall first (2:05.35), followed closely by Bitz (2:05.45), and Nelson (2:05.82).

Badger Aquatic Club 17-year-old Kristin Cornish picked up a new Olympic Trials cut in the women’s 1500 free. Cornish won the race with a 16:45.82, dropping 5.5 seconds from her previous best. With the swim, Cornish came in well under the Wave I cut of 16:49.19, and was a little over a second off the Wave II standard of 16:44.60. Jersey Wahoos 15-year-old Henry McFadden won the men’s 800 free in what was, according to the SWIMS database, his first 800 of his career. McFadden touched in 8:22.64.

Ann Behm, a Jersey Wahoos 17-year-old, won the women’s 200 back in 2:15.26. Behm has been as fast as 2:13.78 before. Westchester 17-year-old Tommy Janton took the men’s 200 back with a 2:04.93. Janton was faster in prelims, where he swam a 2:04.23.

Huske’s best time was posted in November instead of April.
