Anthony Bruno Named Associate Head Coach Of ICSD

Head coach Nick Cavataro has announced that former assistant coach Anthony Bruno has been promoted to the associate head coach role. Coach Cavataro has seen his program grow with Bruno on his staff, and he is excited to raise the profile and role of his coaching partner.

“Anthony has done a superb job here in his first three years at Iona College and has played an intricate role in the elevation and development of our program. He has tireless energy and has developed and expended his knowledge into all areas, from training, technique, seasonal planning and recruiting as well as development and alumni relations.”

Bruno is in his fourth year with the Iona College swimming & diving programs. He joined the Maroon & Gold after serving as an assistant coach at Division III Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. During his time there, numerous Cardinals broke individual record on both the men’s and women’s side.

During the past three season the Gaels’ Men’s team has reset 12 individual and five relay school records, while the Women have reset 7 individual and two relay marks in route to accumulating over 150 all-time top-12 school performances.

Bruno is grateful for the opportunity to see his responsibilities elevated: “I want to thank Director Cole and Nick for this opportunity. Nick has been a great mentor to me these last few years and the Iona community has been incredible to me and my family. I am looking forward to continuing to work side by side with Nick and helping our student athletes achieve our team goals.”

The Gaels 2016 season begins on Friday, Oct. 7 in Worcester, MA against Holy Cross.
