Arena Pro Swim Series At Orlando – Tyler Clary Scratches 200 fly, Junya Koga Out Of 50 Free

Finals at the Orlando Arena Pro Swim Series Orlando tonight will be quite full as there were only five scratches altogether in both the men’s and women’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals.

The most effected event was the men’s 200m fly final where two swimmers dropped out of the ‘B’ final including Olympic gold medallist Tyler Clary. Clary stated yesterday that he wasn’t very happy with the way he’s been swimming in Orlando, and after a 2:04.97 in the prelims of the 200m fly to take the third seed in the ‘B’ final, Clary scratched the race.

Also scratching from the ‘B’ final was Hugo Morris who was the fastest seed with a 2:04.33. With the two big scratches Marcin Cieslak and Zachary Poti moved up to the outside lanes.

Junya Koga was the biggest scratch in the men’s 50 freestyle. Koga took the eighth seed this morning tying with Josh Schneider, but chose against swimming the swim-off and scratched himself from the event. With no Koga in the B-final Schneider will be the eighth seed in the ‘A’ final, and 17th seed Alexander Forbes will get an outside lane in the ‘B’ final.

Koga will still be swimming tonight after taking the third spot overall in the 100m backstroke with a time of 55.69.

The only scratch on the women’s side came in the 100m backstroke and coincidently was the only ‘A’ final scratch of the night. Georgia-Mae Hohmann, the seventh seed in the final, posted a 1:03.19 this morning and with her scratch brings in 17-year-old Charlotte Evans from Great Britain who was a 1:03.77 in the prelims.

The final scratch of the night comes from Canadian breaststroker Antoine Bujold. Bujold had the second seed in the men’s ‘B’ final of the 200m breaststroke where fellow Canadian James Guest had the middle lane. With Bujold’s absence George Greenhalgh will get a second swim after the 2:22.58 he swam in prelims this morning.

Clary should go back to Michigan full time and do some real training (if he wants to medal in Brazil)
Don’t get all the hype about swimmac , they good for 100 and that’s about it.

That Orlando Grand Prix will be probably forgotten.
So many American stars absent.
So many scratches.
Definitely not the funniest Grand Prix meet to watch this season.
