ASU has gotten a verbal from Arizona Gold’s Ben Olszewski. The distance freestyler notched an Olympic Trials standard in the 400 free this past summer.
Olszewski’s Top Times
- 200 free – 1:39.67/1:54.01
- 500/400 free – 4:21.48/3:58.45
- 1650/1500 free – 15:22.04/15:50.06
Representing Horizon, Olszewski won the 500 free and added a 3rd place finish in the 200 IM at last year’s Arizona Div. I HS Champs.
Olszewski has the makings to score in multiple events at the Pac-12 Champs, as he would’ve C finaled in the 200 free, B finaled in the 500 free, and placed 11th overall in the 1650 free. ASU has one sole returning scorer in the mile, and just two returning scorers in the 500, and Olszewski would’ve been their fastest 500 freestyler last season.
None of ASU’s current freshmen are particularly strong in distance, and Olszewski’s arrival on campus will be well-timed as the Sun Devils look to add distance threats to their arsenal.
“I chose ASU because of the world class coaching staff… I loved Bowman’s and the whole athletic staff’s vision for Sun Devil athletics.”
In addition to Olszewski, the ASU men’s class of 2020 includes 4-time Olympic Trials qualifier Zachary Poti, distance freestyler Sidney Kao, King Aquatic Club breaststroker James Scott, Norwegian freestyler Nils Lervik, and versatile talents Joe Molinari and Cameron Craig.

So proud of you, Ben! Go Devils!!
Congratulations Ben!
You have the best worth ethic of anyone I have ever trained with. I know you will do great things at ASU.
Looks like AZ is producing some great male talent lately, especially Arizona Gold. Looking forward to seeing some serious damage done by ASU at Pac 12s in the coming years.
Devils on 3!
1…2…3…
Great pick up for ASU, good looking kid too
Great kid with great heart, can’t wait to see what the future shall bring upon this wonderful soul
Nice pick up for ASU. If he takes the knowledge and experience that he has gained by training with some of the best older swimmers, then he will do just fine in college.
Let me know which older guys he will be learning and training with next year? My guess is none.
Im sure Bowman’s got things cookin. Dont worry, if they want to train and want to race,it’ll be there for them. Dont be such a hater!
Way to go Ben! Outstanding swimmer and individual. Great catch for ASU. Trains with Arizona Gold so his transition to Bowman’s program will be smooth. Looking for great things out of Ben in the coming years. Fork ’em
