Arizona HS State Champion Amber Janky Sends Verbal To San Diego State (2025)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Amber Janky of Tucson, Arizona, has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at San Diego State University. Janky has one more year remaining at Catalina Foothills High School, and will arrive in San Diego next fall for the 2025-2026 season.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at San Diego State University! I want to thank my teammates, my coaches and the coaches at SDSU! I’m so thankful and so excited! Go Aztecs!!”

Janky trains and competes year-round with the Flying Fish Arizona Swim Team, located in Oro Valley. She’s primarily an IM and free specialist, owning U.S. Open cuts in the 200m IM & 50m free, as well as is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 400 IM & 100m free.

In the fall, Janky collected Arizona High School State Championship titles in the 50 and 100 free with times of 23.51 and 50.97, respectively. A month after that she competed at Winter Juniors, where she notched personal bests in the 100 fly (55.81) and 200 IM (2:05.71), and set another season best in the 50 free (23.45).

Janky opened her long course season this spring at Speedo Sectionals in Federal Way. She stopped the clock at 26.44 in the 50m free, good for a new personal best and 6th overall. She also took off over two seconds from her best time in the 200m IM, posting a 2:20.59 to finish 25th.

Top SCY Times

  • 50 free – 23.36
  • 100 free – 50.97
  • 100 fly – 55.81
  • 200 IM – 2:05.71
  • 400 IM – 4:21.49

The Aztecs secured the 2024 Mountain West Championship team title this past February making it their 3rd straight and 5th in the last 6 years. Janky’s best times in the 50 free, 400 IM, and 100 free all would have earned her a spot in the B-final at this year’s meet, putting her in position to be an immediate scorer when she arrives in 2025.

The 400 IM was the weakest of those events for San Diego State last season, with their top finisher being Summer West in 19th (4:26.55). Meredith Smithbaker won the 50 and 100 free titles for the Aztecs this year (22.24/48.54), but will be graduated by the time Janky arrives in California.

Also committed to San Diego State’s future class of 2029 is Sierra Tallman, Melanie Quinto, and Roni Black.
