Arizona State Champion Kylie Ney Verbals to CSUB

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kylie Ney, a distance freestyler and a member of Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s national team, has verbally committed to California State University at Bakersfield.

“I chose CSUB because the team was really welcoming and I already felt like a part of the family after a weekend of being there. The coaches are wonderful and I love training outdoors. They have great plans to renovate the campus and athletic facilities. Bako also has a great program for my desired major. I am so thankful for my friends, family and coaches for supporting me through my swimming journey thus far. I can’t wait to continue my career at CSUB!”

Ney is a senior at Desert Mountain High School. At the 2021 Speedo Sectionals in Austin, Texas, Ney placed eighth in the 1500 freestyle. Earlier in the year at the short course Four Corners Speedo Sectionals, she placed fifth in the 1650 freestyle.

Ney was also the champion in the 500 freestyle at the 2019 and 2020 Arizona Interscholastic Association Division II state championships.

Ney has Futures cuts in the 500 and 1650 freestyle.

Best Short Course Yards Times:

  • 200 freestyle: 1:55.89
  • 500 freestyle: 5:00.66
  • 1000 freestyle: 10:15.59
  • 1650 freestyle: 17:08.93
  • 400 IM: 4:32.85

CSUB is a member of the Western Athletic Conference. At the 2020 WAC conference championships — the 2020-2021 season for CSUB was canceled due to COVID-19 — the team placed fifth out of eight.

Ney’s best time in the 500 yard free would have placed 13th at that meet. The two CSUB women who would have placed ahead of her, Mikayla Popham and Ariane Skeggs, will be a junior and senior, respectively, when Ney arrives at the university in fall 2022.

In the 1650 freestyle, Ney would have placed sixth at the WAC Championships, ahead of all other CSUB swimmers for that event. Ney will be able to add depth to CSUB’s distance team, and should be an immediate 20+ point scorer for a team that was 63 points back of 4th place New Mexico State in 2020.

Ney is the first public commitment for the CSUB women in the class of 2022.

There’s endurance for you! Split her 1000 in half and each portion is over 4 seconds faster than her best 500.
