Evan Nail from Chandler, Arizona has announced his verbal commitment to Arizona State University’s class of 2026.

Nail swims for Perry High School, where he is a junior, and Rio Salado Swim Club. He won the 200 free (1:41.77) and came in 3rd in the 500 free (4:38.95) at the Arizona AIA Division 1 Championships last November. (Both were PBs at the time but he dropped more than 6 seconds in the 500 free since then.) As a sophomore, he came in 6th in the 200 IM (1:56.84) and 11th in the 500 free (4:47.32) at the 2019 AIA Division 1 State Meet.
Nail has been improving in leaps and bounds over the last two years. He kicked off 2020 with a PB in the 1000 free. In November and December, he lowered his times in the 100/200 free, 100 breast, and 200 fly. Since the start of 2021, he has rewritten his personal record books in the SCY 500/1650 free, 50/100/200 back, 200 breast, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM as well as the LCM 200 IM.
At his most recent meet, the Four Corners Sectionals hosted by Phoenix Swim Club, Nail placed 10th in the 200 IM and 400 IM and 17th in the 500 free and notched PBs in the 50 back (23.15), 200 breast (2:04.30), and 400 IM (3:56.88). He also did a time trial in the LCM 200 IM and improved his lifetime best to 2:10.02.
