Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Chloe Thompson, a senior at Bentonville West High School in Bentonville, Arkansas has committed to join the University of Utah class of 2026.
Thompson told SwimSwam, “I couldn’t be more excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Utah! I am extremely grateful for the support I’ve had over the years from my family, friends, and coaches. I couldn’t have gotten where I am today without them. I can’t wait to see what is in store for these next four years!! Go Utes!!”
Thompson does her club swimming with Northwest Arkansas Aquatics in Bentonville, where she specializes in mid-distance and distance freestyle, breaststroke and IM. She is a USA Swimming Futures qualifier in the 200, 500 and 1650 free, as well as the 200 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM. This past summer at the NCSA Championships in Huntsville, Alabama, Thompson scored in the C final in both the 200 and 400 free.
Thompson helped lead Bentonville West to a 4th place finish at the 2021 Arkansas 6A (biggest schools) Swimming and Diving Championships last March. She was a double event winner for Bentonville West, touching first in the 200 free in 1:52.88, only a second shy of former Texas A&M All-American Taylor Pike’s state record. She also won the 500 free in 5:00.00.
Thompson’s best short course yards times include:
- 100 free: 52.74
- 200 free: 1:51.41
- 500 free: 4:54.18
- 1650 free: 17:13.52
- 200 breast: 2:21.30
- 200 IM: 2:06.29
- 400 IM: 4:28.95
Thompson projects to make an immediate impact for the Utes when she arrives on campus next fall. Her best time in the 500 free and 400 IM would have qualified her for the C final at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships, while her 1650 would have placed her 13th overall. She also should be in contention for a spot on Utah’s 800 free relay as her current best time puts her about a second off of Utah’s 3rd and 4th fastest splits from those championships.
Thompson’s arrival will add some depth to bolster the Utah distance program. The 1650 was Utah’s strongest event at the 2021 Pac-12’s, as the Utes finished 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th overall. In the 500 free, Utah scored 2 swimmers in the B final and 2 in the C final, while scoring 1 swimmer in the B final and 3 in the C final of the 400 IM.
Thompson joins Erin Palmer, a dual-sport sprinter from North Dakota, and Katelyn Buono, a winter-juniors qualifying backstroker from Reno, Nevada in Utah’s class of 2026.
