The University of Arkansas women traveled to Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday and emerged victorious, posting the top time in 12 events, including five pool records.

Senior Vanessa Herrmann was the star for Arkansas, sweeping the breaststroke races and setting new pool records in both. The Bismarck, North Dakota native started her day by winning the 100 breast in 1:00.74. She turned three tenths ahead of Kansas senior Kate Steward at the 50 and powered home in a field-best 31.83 to touch three quarters of a second ahead of Steward. The two battled again in the 200 breast, with Herrmann coming out on top again in 2:11.66 to Steward’s 2:14.17. Herrmann’s season bests stand at 59.18 in the 100 breast, the 12th fastest time in the nation this year and 2:09.03 in the 200 breast, the 23rd fastest time in the nation.

Herrmann’s classmate, Razorback senior Kobie Melton, also broke an individual pool record on Saturday. Melton’s pool record came in the 200 back, where she won by almost four seconds in a new lifetime best of 1:57.33. She used a tight split 57.89/59.44 to pull away from the field on the back half, touching ahead of freshman teammate Ella Pearl. Melton also won the 50 free in 22.92, off of her season best of 22.51 from the Tennessee Invite.
