Dutch swimmer Arno Kamminga dominated the sixth heat of the 100 breast and broke a national record on Day 1 of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. He crushed his previous record of 57.90 by 0.1 seconds, posting a best time of 57.80. He and world record-holder Adam Peaty were the only two in prelims to go sub-58.
Kamminga and Peaty have been the top two swimmers in the 100 breast throughout 2021. Peaty won the event at the 2021 European Nationals in May and Kamminga got his hands on the wall second. He went a 58.10 to break the Dutch record and positioned himself as the second-fastest competitor in the race this year.
Prior to this morning, Peaty held the 16-fastest times in the 100 breast, but Kamminga’s 57.80 broke in at #16. They will face off in the semi-final, along with USA’s Michael Andrew who posted a time of 58.14 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June. The three men each won their circle-seeded heats with a comfortable lead and will be swimming head-to-head in the semi-final on Sunday.

I was going to comment on that, too… someone didn’t check their fancy stats for the media, it seems.
MA 57 in semis?
can anyone share the video link for the race highlights
If you’re an American the entire morning session is posted on NBC’s olympic website. You can watch 30 min worth of content without providing a cable provider
Kamminga went 57.90 a few months ago but it’s not in the FINA database. This is still his 2nd ever swim under 58 and a best time as well.
someone at swimswam needs to take a nap
“Arno Kamminga continues being second dude under 58”

wait, wot. was he not 57.9 a couple months ago
I was gonna say I thought he went under a bit ago too…
i think it doesn’t count cause it was in practise or smth
I think he was seeded with a 58.1 or something so that’s what may have led to this mistake
It says he beat his previous record of 57.9
Look at the URL: https://staging.swimswam.com/arno-kamminga-becomes-second-ever-to-go-sub-58-100-breast-57-80-in-prelims
I think they can edit the URL too, but usually they just edit the headline when there’s a goof / typo.
I SEE WHAT YOU DID.
