RECAP
Women
The Aggie women showed their distance freestyle and I.M. prowess on Day One, hinting at another great SEC Championship battle against the Georgia women’s squad.
The Boise State women, however, won the first event of the night, the 200 free relay, where senior Katelyn Martin split a swift 21.88.
After the first event, Texas A&M took over. They put four swimmers in the A final of the 500 free, and had a whopping seven swimmers go sub-4:50. Senior Sarah Gibson won the event by more than 3 seconds, in a time of 4:40.69. Even more impressively, the Aggies then put 6 swimmers in the A Final of the 200 IM, and had 7 swimmers finish under 1:59. Sophomore Sydney Pickrem looks poised to follow-up her breakout freshman season (2016 SEC Champion in the 400 IM), winning the 200 IM by more than 1.5 seconds in 1:56.14.
Texas A&M junior Beryl Gastaldello won the 50 free with the only sub-22 second swim (21.94), and then anchored the winning 400 medley relay (48.23 split).
The Aggies won 4 out of 5 events, and have a commanding lead, although there are still two days of competition remaining.
Men
Judging by the results in the 200 free relay, the men’s meet will be a little tighter than the women’s for first place. In the 200 free relay, Texas A&M, Arizona State and LSU finished within 3 tenths of one another (in that order). Texas A&M’s winning team (1:18.43) utilized two freshmen in its lineup. LSU freshman Karl Luht had the fastest split in the field with a 19.34.
In the 500 free, it was two underclassmen who grabbed the top two finishes. LSU freshman Sven Saemundsson won (4:20.81), followed by Arizona State freshman Benjamin Olszewski (4:22.99).
Another Arizona State freshman, Cameron Craig, had a strong showing, grabbing the win in the 200 IM (1:45.24). Craig came from behind on the last 50 to outtouch A&M’s Mauro Castillo Luna (1:45.88). Craig split a 24.63 on the freestyle leg, while Castillo Luna finished in 26.16.
Texas A&M’s Cory Bolleter won the 50 free (19.48), but Arizona State took second through fourth place—Richard Bohus (19.91), Tadas Duskinas (19.93) and Andrew Porter (20.03).
Arizon State finished Day One on a high note, taking the 400 medley relay. Andre Porter split a 45.81 on the butterfly leg, while Craig delivered a 42.28 anchor shortly after his 200 IM win.
Day Two of the Art Adamson Invitational will feature the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 800 free relay.
The ASU win 400 Medley relay time of 3:07.20 is a NCAA ‘A’ time and the fastest college time so far this year.
Cameron Craig had a great last summer in long course. A revelation for me.

Mr Bowman has a special talent in his hands. I just hope he doesn’t want to transform him into an IMer.
I see a bright future in sprint.
Jack Conger or Neil Walker in the making
Bob Bowman is using Craog as a sprinter mostly although his winning time of 1;45.24 is the second best college 200 iM time this year behind Chase Kalisz
Bowman doesn’t really coach sprinters very well now does he?
I think Ryan Mallam deserves the credit for ASU’s sprint crew
That 50 free by Corey is pretty solid way to go
He’s been 19.39, but took last year off. Dude is crazy talented. I wouldn’t be shocked if he threw down an 18 at SECs
Hold up 18 is still hard to get I doubt he’ll go that fast
