ASU Adds Canadian Breaststroker Pilar McCann to Incoming Class

Canadian Pilar McCann of Edmonton Keyano Swim Club in Edmonton will join the Arizona State class of 2024 this fall.

• 50 breast – 32.61 / 28.47
• 100 breast – 1:10.96 / 1:02.12
• 200 breast – 2:37.00 / 2:17.83

A breaststroker, McCann excels more in the sprint breast events. At the 2019 Canadian Junior Championships during the summer, McCann placed second in the 100 breast and took fifth in the 200 breast. In April of 2019, at the Canadian Worlds Trials, McCann put together a 10th place finish in the 50 breast and a 17th place finish in the 100 breast.

The Sun Devils just lost Silja Kansakoski, a 2018 NCAA 100 breast A-finalist, to graduation. ASU’s top returner is Nora Deleske, a rising senior, who was 1:01.38/2:11.57 in the breast events last year.

McCann would’ve made C-finals in both breaststrokes at the 2020 Pac-12 Championships.

McCann will join the Sun Devils this fall alongside Erin Milligan, Marte Lovberg and Elli Straume.
