Both Hungarian Katinka Hosszu and South African Cameron van der Burgh sit comfortably atop the FINA World Cup point standings and will look to add to their point totals tonight.
Hosszu is going into the 200 freestyle, backstroke and IM as the top qualifier. She posted a 1:58.14 in the 200 freestyle, a 2:11.44 in the 200 backstroke and a 2:11.81 in the 200 IM. She is also ranked third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.70.
van der Burgh will head into the finals with the top time in the men’s 50 breaststroke posting a 27.95 in his morning swim. He did swim the 200 breaststroke, but put up a time of 2:22.17.
Australian Emily Seebohm goes into the finals ranked first in the 50 backstroke and third in the 200 backstroke. Seebohm hit the wall in the 50 in a time of 28.06 while American Natalie Coughlin qualified second in a time of 28.44.
Seebohm qualified with the third fastest time in the 200 backstroke recording a 2:12.73.
The story of the morning in the women’s event is who did not manage to make into the top eight. 50 breaststroke world champion Jennie Johansson of Sweden finished ninth in a time of 1:08.84 while 50 breaststroke silver and 100 breaststroke bronze medalist Alia Atkinson of Jamaica finished 10th in a time of 1:08.86.
American Molly Hannis was the top qualifier in the event posting a 1:07.12.
On the men’s side 100 backstroke world champion Australian Mitch Larkin posted the morning’s fastest time in the 100 backstroke finishing in a 52.99. With that time Larkin now holds down the top spot in the world rankings.

He was followed by Ryosuke Irie of Japan who finished in a time of 53.98 and American David Plummer who touched in a time of 54.04.
American Michael Andrew was the top qualifier in the men’s 50 butterfly finishing in a time of 23.87.
