Atkinson to lead Jamaican Commonwealth Games team, 6 swimmers to attend

2012 double World Champs silver medalist Alia Atkinson will headline a 6-person Jamaican team for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Atkinson, who trains in the U.S. and has been tearing up the American Grand Prix circuit in the breaststrokes this season, is the country’s best shot at earning Commonwealth Games medals – she was the first Jamaican to medal at Worlds and nearly became the first to medal in the Olympics, finishing 4th in 2012.

Joining her will be five other swimmers, two more females and three males.

Timothy Wynter, who holds the national records in all three backstroking distances is among the names, as are women’s 400 IM national record-holder Zara Bailey, men’s distance freestyle record-holder Dominic Walter and 50 freetstyle record-holder Jevon Atkinson (no relation to Alia) who came out of retirement to represent his country in Scotland.
