Auburn scores two more commits from Brody Heck, Bryar Long

The Auburn Tigers picked up two more commits yesterday: sprint freestyler Brody Heck of Boca Raton, Florida and breaststroker Bryar Long from Knoxville, Tennessee.

Heck’s strengths fit right in at Auburn; he’s a pure sprinter, with lifetime bests of 20.59 and 44.46 from his double-winning performance at last fall’s Florida High School State Championships.  Overall, his bests are within four tenths of scoring at 2015 SEC’s, and were more than a half second and full second, respectively, faster than the previous season.  Along with recent commit Colin Bone, the Tigers are looking to put together another excellent sprint recruiting class.

Long, who competes for Tennessee Aquatics, was a finalist at Summer Junior Nationals in the 200 breaststroke this past summer, and has Summer Junior cuts in the 100 breaststroke and both IM events.  He’s also a solid 500 freestyler:
Event SCY LCM
200 breast 2:01.44 2:18.81
100 breast 56.32 1:04.81
400 IM 3:53.24 4:32.03
200 IM 1:50.56 2:08.27
500 free 4:30.48

That 200 breaststroke time is just over a second away from the C final at SEC’s, and would make him the fourth-fastest Tiger as a junior in high school.  He’s coming off a very strong long course campaign that included a 1.5 second drop in the 200 breast, to make the championship final at Juniors.  In short course yards, Long has cut nearly six seconds over the past three years in the event, and with another season ahead, he will likely arrive at Auburn inside SEC scoring position.

The addition of Long and Heck double Auburn’s commit list to four, alongside Colin Bone, and butterflyer/backstroker David Crossland.

I count it as a real treasure in my life to have watched you grow up inside and outside of the pool. Charlotte and I will be forever grateful for the role model that you were for our young boys. What you have accomplished in the pool is nothing compared to the fine young man that you are outside of the pool. Congratulations on all you have accomplished and I pray that God be with you and bless you all the days to come.
